Amber's daughter rejects her again in new “Teen Mom: The Next Chapter” trailer
In the new season of MTV's long-running docuseries, the babies we met on "16 & Pregnant" are now 16-year-olds themselves.
This year on Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, the kids are in the driver's seat — literally.
Entertainment Weekly has the exclusive first trailer for the latest installment the long-running MTV docuseries, which began as 16 & Pregnant way back in 2009. Now, the babies we met all those years ago are 16 years old themselves, and you know what that means, folks — they've got a license to drive.
In the first part of season 2 last year, we saw Bentley — son of Maci McKinney and Ryan Edwards — get his learner's permit, which already made us feel old enough. As the trailer for the new episodes reveals, the young man gets quite a gift for his 16th birthday [The Price is Right announcer voice]: A new car! Also earning a set of wheels is Leah Shirley, the 16-year-old daughter of Amber Portwood.
Unfortunately for Amber, though, her relationship with Leah remains strained. "I still haven't talked to Leah," she says tearfully. Leah, meanwhile, seems uninterested in mending her relationship with her estranged mother. "At this point, I don't want Amber to step up," she announces. Last season, Leah's father, Gary Shirley, revealed that Leah wanted her stepmother, Kristina Shirley, to adopt her.

Raising teenagers also presents challenges for former teen mom Leah Messer, who is surprised to see her daughter Aleeah sporting a sparkly ring from her boyfriend. And after talking to her 13-year-old son, Gannon, about dating, Mackenzie Douthit frets on a phone call to her father, "Hopefully, I don't blink and I'm a grandparent."

Co-parenting is never easy, especially after a contentious break-up, but it seems as though Maci and her husband, Taylor, are finally in a good place with Bentley's father, Ryan — who has struggled with addiction in the past. The trailer features a brief moment with Ryan and his girlfriend, Amanda Conner, sharing a pleasant car ride with Maci and Taylor — something that would have been unheard of just a few seasons ago.
Teen Mom: The Next Chapter returns Thursday, Jan. 30 on MTV.
