Inside Home and Away stars James Stewart and Sarah Roberts' split: 'Bruised and wounded'

Former Home and Away star Sarah Roberts recently confirmed she had split from husband and former co-star James Stewart, citing that the star couple had grown apart.

In an interview with Stellar magazine, the 39-year-old actress and DJ said the marriage had ended after five years, stating: "'I just want to say that I am divorced."

Sarah revealed the couple had grown apart and that was "okay". "'Sometimes people grow apart and that's okay... I got to a point where I realised I couldn't grow in the way I wanted to within this particular relationship," she said.

Now, a source has claimed that the pair had a series of "complex" problems that arose, telling Now To Love that they were "bruised and wounded" after things didn't work out.

"Their relationship problems were just too complex, and in the end, the love died and both, bruised and wounded, decided to go their separate ways," the insider said.

They went on to say Sarah wanted to pursue her career overseas, and while she tried to make it work for the sake of James' daughter Scout, it wasn't meant to be.

"Sarah has always had huge dreams of wanting to venture abroad and take her career to the US and James wasn't a fan – his first priority is all about Scout," the source said, of James' daughter with former partner, Jessica Marais.

The insider also said Sarah "lost" herself within the relationship and likened it to James' relationship with Jessica.

“James has been confronted with similar personal issues he encountered when he was with former partner Jess Marais – he tried to resolve those issues back then, but sadly, the same problems arose,” the source said.

Sarah told Stellar that she had been initially afraid to share the news of the split, due to "stigma and shame".

“I hid for a very long time. There were times when I didn’t feel like I could see the light or a way out of these big, complex emotions that I was feeling. But I hope that by just being honest today, I’ll free myself, and potentially free a lot of other people, to be able to speak their truth," she said.
