I'm A Celebrity's Liz Ellis breaks down over fertility struggles: 'Awful'

"I had three miscarriages."

Netball star Liz Ellis broke down over her fertility struggles on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! on Tuesday night, explaining to Below Deck's Aesha Scott how she endured a number of IVF cycles and suffered multiple miscarriages.

Aesha, 31, revealed to the former Australian netball captain, 50, that she doesn't "want kids for ages".

"You're fine, but what I would say to you is your fertility falls off a cliff, theoretically, after the age of 35," Liz told her, adding that when she had her first baby at 38, the doctor told her there may be issues.

"When she was born, the obstetrician said, 'You're old, if you want another one you've gotta start trying straight away,' and it took us five years to fall pregnant," she said.

"We did IVF, I had three miscarriages," she told Aesha and fellow campmate Debra Lawrance, 66. "I did five rounds, and I fell pregnant twice and both of them were miscarriages. It was awful. But it's okay because I got my baby. It's okay."

Liz welcomed her daughter Evelyn in 2011, and her son Austin in 2016.

Debra shared her own struggles, revealing she "lost four babies" before she had her youngest son Will as Liz began tearing up.

"Oh I'm so sorry," Liz told her.

Debra responded, "They weren't meant to be. I lost two single babies and then identical twin girls. They were later into the pregnancy, they had a syndrome, and they were never going to survive. And my belief, Liz, is when Will was born... he was the baby we were waiting for. And so it makes him really precious."

"I can't believe I'm the first one to cry in here," Liz said with a laugh.

"No, It's good to cry about it. It's actually good to acknowledge the loss. There's this weird thing about how it's almost like some women feel ashamed if they miscarry, which is so bizarre to me," Debra told her.

"The hardest thing is there's no word for the grief," Liz said through her tears.

Debra also began crying while speaking about her experience when she was pregnant with her twins, where they had the 16-week scan and the heartbeat for one of the babies wasn't there.

Aesha told the women she felt "privileged" to have the conversation with Liz and Debra, who she described as "such strong women".

"And do you know what? You might fall pregnant and never have any problems at all," Liz told Aesha. "But when we get out of here, you can ring us at any time."

Viewers took to Twitter to send love to the women, with one user writing, "All the feels right now with Liz & Debra."

"Aesha with Liz and Debra warms my heart. This is so sweet," another said.

"Watching Liz Ellis and Debra Lawrence talk about their Angel Babies," a third said, adding crying emojis.
