I'm A Celebrity medics called in after challenge goes wrong: 'Intense'

Some viewers have called the challenge 'disgusting' and 'horrendous'.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! viewers were left stunned during Tuesday night’s episode when Nick ‘The Honey Badger’ Cummins was attacked by a snake during a terrifying challenge.

The former Bachelor, who entered the jungle on Monday night, was forced to tackle a series of tasks that an actual honey badger can do in order to collect stars and win meals for his fellow campmates.

After climbing a tree while being shocked with electrodes and eating a Madagascar hissing cockroach covered in honey, Nick was challenged with placing his hand in a box containing a python for 30 seconds.

However, just a few seconds into the task the reptile jumped up and bit his wrist before coiling around his hand.

“Don't worry, that snake is non-venomous,” host Dr Chris Brown explained as Nick grimaced in pain. “Well done Nick. Wow, that was unexpected.”

Following the task, Chris saw there was blood on Nick’s hand and called a medic to treat the injury.

“That was intense, man,” Nick laughed. “What an epic experience though. That is awesome.”

“That’s one way to review it,” Chris remarked.

His wound was then cleaned up and the medic approved him to continue with the challenge, where he ultimately won 10 out of 13 stars for the camp.

'Quite confronting'

Viewers quickly took to social media after the incident to share their thoughts, with a number of people calling the challenge “crazy” and “bonkers”.

“The speed of which that snake wrapped its body around his arm was quite confronting,” one person wrote, followed by another who added, “This is the reason I could never go on this show… this is legit my worst fear”.

“That is pretty intense. But if anyone was going to be bitten, they are probably lucky it's Nick,” a third wrote, while someone else said, “Only the Honey Badger can get bitten by a snake and call it an epic experience”.

“Snake bites are pretty painless the anticipation is what gets you,” a different user replied. “Nick took it like a champ.”

Meanwhile, others said it was “disgraceful”, “disgusting” and “horrendous” that the show would put someone through that experience.

“This is not ok,” one viewer remarked, with another asking, “Why would you do that to him?”.

“There is nothing cool about that at all. Just about vomited,” someone else shared, while a different user said, “It’s kinda tough that just to get stars for camp Nick had to get bitten by a snake for it. Seriously”.

Nick's salary revealed

Nick’s snake encounter comes shortly after a source told Yahoo Lifestyle he was paid an eye-watering amount of money to appear on the reality show.

“His deal is thought to be worth around $250,000 to $300,000, making him one of the highest-paid campmates this year,” the insider told us.

“It’s a little less than the $500,000 that he was paid for The Bachelor, but this is a shorter production with less demands and rules. It’ll all be done in a few weeks, unlike The Bachelor, where he had to put his life on hold for six months.”
