Yahoo Lifestyle Ali Wong and Bill Hader Make Their Red Carpet Debut After 2 Years of Dating
In case ya didn’t know, comedians Ali Wong and Bill Hader are very much a thing. Now, if your immediate questions are anything like, Wait…when did they even start dating? How come I didn’t get a Google Alert about this? or simply ?!?!?!?!?, don’t worry. We’ll help you fill in all the blanks.
But first! a little background: Bill married writer/director Maggie Carey in 2006 and the two welcomed three daughters: Hayley, Hannah, and Harper. Fast-forward to 2017 and the duo announced they had split after more than a decade of marriage, and their divorce actually wound up being finalized in 2018. In the time since, the Emmy-winner has made tons of headlines after dating Rachel Bilson (who said some preeeeetty NSFW things regarding what she missed the most about Bill post-split) and Anna Kendrick before moving on with Ali.
Meanwhile, the Beef star married businessman Justin Hakuta in November 2014, and the two went on to separate in April 2022. They share two children, Mari and Nikki, and have remained amicable since the split, per an interview Ali did with the Hollywood Reporter back in March 2023. “We’re really, really close; we’re best friends. We’ve been through so much together. It’s a very unconventional divorce,” she said.

’Kay, buckle in, folks! Apparently, Ali and Bill dated at some point in fall 2022 after Bill split with Anna and Ali divorced Justin, per Page Six. However! The outlet says their ’ship took place “at least two months” before December. (Ali’s divorce from her former husband was public as of April 2022, and Bill and Anna’s breakup was announced in June 2022, which leaves *pulls out calculator* roughly four months for the comedians to have connected. Bill not-so-casually reveals he and Ali are back together in an interview with Collider. “My girlfriend and I were just figuring out that I haven’t had a vacation in 10 years. I went with her to San Francisco, but that doesn’t really count. So I’m going to have a vacation. I need to go into sponge mode, where I’m watching stuff and reading,” the Barry creator dishes.
It obvi doesn’t take long for other outlets to find sources who confirm that Bill is likely referring to Ali and that the two are trying things out for a second time.

An insider dishes to Us Weekly that the rumors are true and Ali and Bill are indeed rekindling their relationship. “It’s an official romance, but there’s no talk about moving in together or anything like that,” the source explains. “While they seem to be serious, they’re both on the same page about taking it one day at a time. At this point, it’s all about having a connection, which they do, and having some fun.”
The insider adds that the two ultimately decided to give their relationship “another shot” because the timing worked out this time around—something that was an issue during their first go. “Ali and Bill have known each other for a while from their respective comedy worlds. They were friends first, nothing serious, but once she was single, the idea of dating became a possibility. They were both at a good place in their lives and decided to give it another shot.”

Ali makes a rare comment about her love life during an interview with Variety—namely, the “weird” level of attention she's been getting on her relationship. “I have never, ever been snapped by paparazzi until this year,” she then confesses before revealing, “I was talking to someone recently and they said, 'I think it’s so alarming when it happens because you feel like you’ve been caught when really, you’re not doing anything wrong.' It was someone giving me, in hindsight, advice about their former relationship with a famous person. They had spent so much energy hiding, and that defined the whole relationship. That’s still staying with me, and it’s quite an adjustment.”
During the profile, the celeb also explains how dating someone has impacted her stand-up routine: “I’m not single now, but I was single for a long time after I got divorced. It was so compelling to talk about my life as a single woman. When practicing, I was in the habit of talking as if I was still single. What’s strange is now [my romantic life] is public information. For me, stand-up is still an abstraction of truth—it does not represent the whole me. Out of respect for my relationship, I have to practice putting them in the past tense.”

Ali recounts the story of how Bill showed his interest in her shortly after she filed for divorce from Justin in April 2022.
“I get a phone call from this guy who I met at a dinner party in the past, and he got my number from a mutual friend,” she recounts during her Netflix Is a Joke Fest show (via Rolling Stone). “He was like, ‘Hey, I just happened to hear the news about your divorce, and I've had a crush on you forever. I actually told my best friend years ago that you were my dream girl, and I know it sounds crazy, but I want you to be my girlfriend.'”
However, in a hilarious twist, apparently, the Beef star had legit juuuuuust finished signing up for a dating app: “I was like, ‘I just paid $25. You seem really nice, but I gotta get my money's worth.'”
Luckily, the SNL alum didn't stop expressing his feelings there and wound up sending flowers to every hotel she stayed in during a European trip she took at the time. We're not crying, you are!!!

During a new InStyle interview in honor of Ali’s fourth Netflix special, Single Lady, it is revealed that one of the outfits she wore in Baby Cobra was at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History as part of a permanent exhibition called “Entertainment Nation.”
“The last time I saw that dress live was last summer when it was on display at the Smithsonian,” the comedian confesses. “And my daughters came with me there, and Bill [Hader] happened to be visiting me, and my ex-husband was with me, too. And it was really, really nice. And my daughter Mari, like, pointed to my stomach [in the display]. She’s like, That's me. She and my other daughter do take a lot of pride in the fact that they were onstage with me. It’s very sweet,” she adds.

Fans are worried when Ali shows up solo to the 2025 Golden Globes...but a rep for Bill confirms he and Ali are still very much together.
“Bill was not able to attend the Globes due to a pre-existing eye condition that flared up and he was advised by his doctor to stay home and rest,” the rep tells People. “He and Ali are still together.”
