A good night's sleep makes everything feel better - and making sure you have the right mattress is essential in helping you sleep well. But what should you look for in a mattress to make sure it's comfy, and good for your back?
"A good mattress should support your sleep and not ruin it," says founder of Wowbeds, Gary Ginsberg.
"If you’re feeling uncomfortable every night, having difficulty sleeping, or waking up with body pain, these may be signs that it’s time to buy a new mattress. It depends on what you need, but mattresses can offer pressure point relief, back support, or both."
These are the different sort of mattresses to look at:
Innerspring or coil mattress
"The most traditional of the mattress types, these are made up of coils and springs that are hidden under layers of fabric, latex, or foam," says Ginsberg.
The Noa mattress, $749, for a queen, is a hybrid design with above average support. It gives a medium-firm feel and is reasonably priced.
Foam mattresses
"Foam mattresses are typically made with a combination of different foam types," says Ginsberg.
"They are different types of foam mattresses based on whatever foam type is most dominant in its layers. Some foams are bouncier than others while others, like memory foam can absorb large amounts of pressure and motion transfer."
The Emma Comfort foam mattress, now $479.40 for a queen, is one of Choice.com.au's top scoring mattresses.
It's made from a foam that adapts to your body and regulates temperature. It's ideal for back, front and side sleepers.

Hybrid mattresses
"A hybrid mattress is a multi-layer bed that combines memory foam, latex, or gel along with an innerspring system," says Ginsberg.
"Sleepers can experience both the pressure relief of the foam layers and the sturdy feel of a classic spring mattress. Combining both springs and foam; they’re supportive and plush."
The Wowbeds Duo Mattress $1290 for a queen, is designed to isolate movement and minimise partner disturbance, with each spring moving independently, so you get an uninterrupted night's sleep.
They're made from a combination of premium comfort foam, convoluted foam and luxurious gel memory foam, and all mattresses come with a free hybrid pillow. There's currently 40% off if you use the code NEWYEARS40.
Latex mattresses
"Latex is a rubber-like material that provides a firm but comfortable sleeping experience, similar to memory foam," says Ginsberg.
They have a solid feel, so maybe aren't right for someone wanting a softer mattress."
The Eva Mattress, $900 for a queen, is made from gel memory foam. It's ideal for back, side, and heavier sleepers, and has sturdier springs, as well as a plush comfort later.
