‘House Of The Dragon’ Casts James Norton As Ormund Hightower In Season 3

James Norton has been tapped to portray Ormund Hightower in Season 3 of HBO’s House of the Dragon, Deadline has learned.

Ormund, who was referenced in Season 2 but never appeared on onscreen, is then nephew of Otto (Rhys Ifans), cousin to Alicent (Olivia Cooke) and Gwayne (Freddie Fox) and the Lord of Oldtown. He is presently leading the Hightower host in a march on King’s Landing to support his house against Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy).

Variety was first to report Norton’s casting.

Based on Martin’s Fire & Blood and set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon tells the story of House Targaryen.

In addition to Ifans, Cooke, Fox and D’Arcy, the cast also includes Matt Smith, Emma, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Matthew Needham, Sonoya Mizuno, Tom Glynn-Carney, Ewan Mitchell, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban and Jefferson Hall. Additional Season 2 cast includes Abubakar Salim, Gayle Rankin, Simon Russell Beale, Clinton Liberty, Jamie Kenna, Kieran Bew, Tom Bennett, Tom Taylor and Vincent Regan.

George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal, who also serves as showrunner, are co-creators and executive producers. Sara Hess, Alan Taylor, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Loni Peristere and Vince Gerardis also executive produce.

Norton previously starred as Hugo Swan on HBO’s The Nevers, and also is known for his roles in Happy Valley and Grantchester. On the film side he was most recently seen in Bob Marley: One Love. His other feature credits include Joy, Little Women and Nowhere Special.
