'You know we belong together, you and I forever and ever...' Those opening lines of the theme song of classic Aussie soap Home and Away cut deep with many an angsty teen all over the country.
We all wanted nothing more than to hang at the beach with Kim, Leah, Vinnie and Angel.
But as we grew up, so did they and many of the actors who appeared on the show went on to become household names around the world!
Chris Hemsworth - character Kim Hyde
Chris started as a teen on the show working from 2004-2007 before he took a punt to try his luck in Hollywood.
With his good looks, he was quickly cast in Star Trek as George Kirk before he landed the iconic role of Thor in 2011. He has since become a Hollywood leading man but he credit's Home and Away with giving him his work ethic.
"I spent three and a half years on the show. You shoot 20 scenes a day, five episodes a week, so you sink or swim," He told the Herald Sun. "If you can make it in that kind of environment, a movie set, where you have two or three days to do a scene and months to prepare, feels like a luxury."
Chris lives with wife Elsa Pataky and their three children just outside Byron Bay.
Isla Fisher - character Shannon Reed
West Australian actress Isla spent over three years in Summer Bay but her break into Hollywood was a little slower.
She spent time working in Paris and London before winning a bit part in the Scooby-Doo movie. But it was showing her comic timing in The Wedding Crashers that really had critics talking.
Since then she has become a fully-fledged leading lady starring in Definitely, Maybe, Confessions of a Shopaholic and Now You See Me.
She is currently back in Australia with her husband, actor Sasha Baron Cohen, and their two kids where she is filming the TV series Wolf Like Me Mary.
Guy Pearce - character David Croft
Versatile actor Guy Pearce may have started out in soaps, firstly Neighbours and then Home and Away, but as his role in the Aussie film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert proved, he could play anyone.
He was even in consecutive Academy Award winning best films The Hurt Locker and The King's Speech. Most recently he can be seen in TV series Mare of Eastwood as the love interest to star Kate Winslet.
The AFL fan married his childhood sweetheart back in 2007 however after 18 years together they announced they had split. Guy is now in a relationship with Game of Thrones actress Carice van Houten with whom he shares a son Monte.
Naomi Watts - character Julie Gibson
Naomi wasn't on the show for long, appearing in just 19 episodes back in 1991 but it was enough to kick-start the career of the actress who turned down Tom Cruise for a lamb roast.
It took her a little while longer to make it in Tinseltown but given her first major role was in David Lynch's 2001 film Mullholland Drive, the only way was up!
Since then she has been nominated for best actress in a leading role Academy Awards for her 2003 role in 21 Grams and for Lo Impossible in 2013.
She and fellow actor Liev Schreiber co-parent their two boys and despite the pandemic, she is still very busy with her acting roles. She is currently filming Goodnight Mummy in the US with another film and a TV series in re-production!
Ryan Kwanten - character Vinnie Patterson
Vinnie was a larrikin, a ratbag and a never-ending source of comedy in Summer Bay and it seems that may have helped Ryan when he was cast in the US drama True Blood.
Playing Sookie's self-obsessed, womanising brother Jason Stackhouse in the vampire drama catapulted Ryan onto the world's hottest actor lists along with fellow co-stars Alexander Skarsgård, Stephen Moyer and Joe Manganiello.
He is now based in Los Angeles and has enjoyed a plethora of work since the seven seasons he spent on True Blood. But Hollywood hasn't changed the down-to-earth Aussie.
"Like anyone, I’ve had my struggles and had my stresses," he told New Idea recently. "But it’s life. You’re going to get hit with that. The sooner you realise that there’s hardship involved, the more beautiful life can become for it. Some people don’t get that chance, so I feel like you’ve got to really live for absolutely every moment."
Samara Weaving - character Indi Walker
She may be the niece of Aussie acting royalty Hugo Weaving but Samara has definitely carved her own road. Since appearing in Home and Away from 2009-2013, Samara has balanced a TV and film career.
She has worked hard and consistently and her smallish role in the award-winning movie Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri showed the world she has what it takes to make it in Hollywood. Since then she starred in the television remake of Picnic At Hanging Rock and has co-starred in Bill & Ted Face the Music.
It seems she is truly on the precipes of great things as she can soon be seen in the Liane Moriarty TV series Nine Perfect Strangers alongside Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy and Luke Evans.
Julian McMahon - character Ben Lucini
He grew up in the lush surrounds of Kirribilli House as the son of Australian Prime Minister Sir William McMahon but Julian had the acting bug and after a brief stint of modelling, he joined Home and Away in 1989.
After three years in Summer Bay, and meeting his former wife, actress and singer Dannii Minogue, on the show, Julian left Australia to try and break America. Before long he secured a leading role on the popular US TV show Charmed followed by plastic surgery drama Nip/Tuck.
He currently stars in US TV drama FBI: Most Wanted. He is also the father of a grown-up 21-year-old daughter Madison with his ex-wife Brooke Burns and has been with current wife, model Kelly Paniagua for 18 years!
Melissa George - character Angel Parrish
Who didn't want to be Angel in the 90s! She may have been a runaway but with her beauty and personality, she could charm anyone. And Melissa was the same.
Her model good looks may have opened doors for her when she sought fame and fortune in America but she followed through with talent and a great work ethic. She appeared in several supporting roles on the big screen before becoming a leading lady in her own right in films such as the remake of The Amityville Horror and Derailed. She also had success in TV with recurring roles in Alias, Grey's Anatomy and The Good Wife.
Most recently she appeared in the TV remake of The Mosquito Coast with Justin Theroux. She now mainly splits her time between the US for work and France where she shares custody of her two sons Raphaël, seven and Solal, six, with ex-husband entrepreneur Jean David Blanc.
