Hollywood star's huge transformation for new Thor movie: 'Terrifying'

A Hollywood star who is well known for playing a DC Comics hero looks completely unrecognisable in his new role, portraying a terrifying character in the latest Thor film.

The British A-lister has transformed to become the franchise’s latest villain, Gorr the God Butcher, in Thor: Love and Thunder, which will be released this July.

Christian Bale has changed his appearance drastically for this role, appearing scarred and bloody in the teaser trailer shared on Monday.

Bale is well known for playing Batman in Christopher Nolan’s trilogy, and fans on social media were quick to reference a quote from The Dark Night: “You either die a hero, or live long enough to become the villain.”

Bale has sported heavy make-up to change the way his face looks, plus he appears to have no hair. Some fans have compared him to Harry Potter’s Voldemort, without the missing nose.

His character of Gorr the God Butcher will fight Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and other heroes in the new film, saying in the trailer: “All gods must die.”

“He looks so terrifyingly cool!!!! He’s gonna be a really great villain,” one person wrote.

“Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher really is a terrifying villain,” another agreed.

“Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher looks CRAZY, can’t wait to see his performance,” a third said.

This isn’t the first time that Bale has completely changed his appearance for a role, with the actor well known for method acting.

For his role as Batman in 2004, the actor reportedly gained 45kg in his effort to portray the DC superhero. Since he appeared in three Batman films, he had to continually bulk up before shooting each film.
