Despite the advice, Klum braved the red carpet in a pastel purple gown spotted with ruffled flowers by Marchesa.
The dress was mocked on social media, with some comparing Klum's look to Disney's "fairy godmother" and labelled the gown a "rejected bridesmaid dress".
"Heidi Klum's dress looks like Maya Rudolph's dress from Bridesmaids #Oscars #ladyStPetsoisJuju ?? #heidiklum," Margy tweeted.
"Heidi Klum needs to fire... and sue her stylist. Oy vey. #Oscars #ERedCarpet," another wrote.
"Dislike this dress, wouldn't think Heidi Klum would wear this ?? beautiful colour just take off the bows #Oscars," Nikki J tweeted.
But not all fans were against the supermodel's fashion choice.
"Heidi Klum looks like my birthday cake. But oddly, she pulls it off... #oscars," Cynthia Barnes said.

"Already love the dress and haven't seen it completely!" Stef Alistair said on Instagram.
