Woman Gives Birth to 6kg Baby

A woman from Perth has given birth to a baby weighing six kilograms – nearly twice the size of a normal infant.

Breanna Syke told PerthNow she had “no idea” how big her baby was going to be until he was born (via caesarean in case you were wondering), making for an enormous surprise when she finally laid eyes on him.

“It was a very big surprise,” said Skye. “The doctor would not induce me (at first) but then measured me on the table and said he thought my baby would be about eight or nine pounds.

“My waters broke, and I was fully dilated, but the pain was too much. I was having an anxiety attack so they had to put me under anaesthetic. When I woke up they told me I had a 13.2 pound (5.9kg) baby.”

To put that into perspective, doctors snapped Skye’s newborn with another baby born the same day (take a peek at the photo below!).

According to reports, Skye’s newborn might be the biggest baby ever born in Australia.

“I have had 15 doctors come visit me when they found out how big he was,” Breanna explained. “Most have said he was the biggest newborn they have ever seen.

“One of the doctors said to me he’s the biggest baby he has seen in his 15 years as a doctor."

Despite his enormous frame though, doctors say Skye’s baby boy is perfectly healthy.
