Hailee Steinfeld Reflects on 'Bucket List Moment' Starring in 'Empowering' First Super Bowl Ad (Exclusive)
Hailee Steinfeld is checking one more thing off her bucket list.
The Marvels actress, 28, opened up about the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of starring in her first Super Bowl ad with first-time advertiser Novartis, a global leader in breast cancer care, while exclusively chatting with Parade ahead of the big game.
"This is a bucket list moment, for sure, to be in a Super Bowl commercial and this one of all ones. I don't think there is one that I would feel as proud and as honored to be a part of as I do with this commercial with Novartis," Steinfeld tells Parade.
She describes the spot as "a bunch of women that are confident and empowered and empowering and encouraging and supportive, banding together and spreading a message that is so important and taking this sort of fixation that society has on women's breasts already, and turning that attention to what matters the most as far as our breasts go. And that is our breast health."
Steinfeld, who has long been a breast cancer advocate, stars in Novartis' ad with comedian and breast cancer survivor Wanda Sykes for their "Your Attention, Please" campaign, which puts early detection at the forefront and inspires women to be proactive about their breast health, including prioritizing screenings.
A centerpiece of the campaign is YourAttentionPlease.com, which aims to make breast health information more accessible and easier to understand.
Steinfeld goes on to describe the 30-second spot, which will air on FOX during Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9, as attention-grabbing from the "first shot."
"It's very energetic, it's very upbeat," she tells Parade, noting that there is something empowering about changing the stigma around breasts. "Knowing that this is going to be viewed by so many people is just so important and so exciting. I'm really looking forward to the impact that this has, knowing that it will, [and] hoping that it will have a great one."
Starring in her first Super Bowl ad shouldn't come as a surprise for viewers, though, as the Dickinson actress is engaged to Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. She tells Parade, however, that her love of football has been ingrained in her since early on.
"I would say I'm a lot closer to it now," she explains, alluding to Allen. "My sort of introduction to football, I guess you could say, [is that] my brother played in high school and I cheered for him. So I know the game from the sidelines. I've always loved watching it. It's always been a family sport. There's always been a love for the game in the house and of the Super Bowl, especially."
She adds, "This feels like a really big full-circle moment to have this spot and to be a part of the Super Bowl this year in this way."
And while Steinfeld's presence will undoubtedly be felt during this year's Super Bowl with her Novartis ad, the Academy Award nominee still isn't sure of her plans for the big game just yet—but that doesn't mean she isn't looking forward to enjoying Super Bowl Sunday like the rest of us.
"I love a food moment," she tells Parade of some of her game-day traditions. "There's definitely a chip dip that's made that's never made at any other point in the year. A good bean dip or a corn dip. Gotta have wings, gotta have nachos, and I have to have something sweet. I love a good Super Bowl cookie, whatever that might look like. But that's that. I always feel like I love to take on some food element and bring that to the party. That's my contribution."
