Guy Sebastian left in shock over Jason Derulo's move on The Voice 2023: 'Really sucks'

Tensions soared between Guy Sebastian and Jason Derulo in Tuesday night’s episode of The Voice, as they battled it out over a rising star.

17-year-old Maree Mamalis wowed the coaches with her rendition of Billie Eilish’s Listen Before I Go, with Guy Sebastian, 41, immediately trying to get the young singer to join his team.

“You are obviously amazing, I would love you to be on my team,” Guy said, before new coach, US singer, Jason Derulo pulled out a big move.

Jason immediately hit his block button, preventing Maree from joining Team Guy in a bid to sway her to his team instead, leaving Guy upset.

“You just did that?!” he exclaimed, “Wow, Maree, I’ve just been blocked, which really sucks.”

Jason’s technique worked, with the coach saying it “felt good” to block Guy and win over Maree.

“I was promised there would be amazing talent in Australia, and I have been blown away so early,” Jason said. “I’m such a fan. We can have a lot of fun telling your story and taking you and becoming the biggest artist in the world.”

Jason Derulo has joined The Voice this year after Keith Urban revealed last year he wouldn’t be back for the 2023 season.

He previously talked about his rivalry with Guy in an interview with Who.

“Everyone has been so lovely and welcoming, but it’s the nicest person in the room you’ve got to watch out for because they’ll be the most cutthroat,” he said.

“Guy is a poet, and it’s like a song that comes out of him when he’s trying to get people onto his team. I’ve got to keep my eye constantly on Guy.”
