Guy Sebastian slammed over 'favouritism' on The Voice
The Voice prides itself on being one of the fairest singing competitions, with contestants concealed during auditions to whittle the judges’ selection process down to the bare bones of vocal talent.
What happens however, once the chairs turn?
According to some fans, some blatant favouritism from Guy Sebastian.
The Voice knockout rounds have kicked off and with it some hairy accusations have been thrown around online.
In one knockout round, Guy chose long time friend Chynna Taylor over up-and-comer Conor Smith, and professional vocalist Akina Edmonds.
In his deliberation, Guy openly admitted that the performance itself was perhaps a bit humdrum, but that he chose Chynna based off her potential.
“There wasn’t these moments that I let you really explode and show what you’re capable of,” he said following the trio’s rendition of ‘Papa Don’t Preach’.
“I’ve known you for a long time... I know that there’s this insane voice there,” he followed up before choosing his pal in the final decision.
Their history
The pair go all the way back X-Factor in 2016 where Guy also mentored US-born Chynna.
He’s always been a vocal supporter of the singer’s talent, and famously exploded over her elimination mid way through the X-Factor season, labelling it ‘stupid’.
Now however, fans are doing some exploding of their own, labelling Guy’s choice ‘favouritism’, and going so far as to call out the show for being ‘rigged’.
The reaction
Of course Guy picks hid friend and the person who's voice sounds like the next persons gets saved! So much for being individual... Connor never had a chance 😕 #TheVoiceAU

Bit of favouritism there I think

Some wanted to see the rules overhauled to level the playing field.
Coaches should NOT be allowed to have friends on their team #TheVoiceAU

Others weren’t surprised, but neither were they impressed.
Like @GuySebastian was going to choose anyone else... #rigged

It’s not the first competition-related controversy guy has found himself embroiled in.
Earlier this year the judge locked into a battle of insults with former X-Factor colleague Iggy Azealia after making comments about her treating him ‘awfully’ during their time together on the show.
Looks like boy-next-door Guy is getting quite the reputation for stirring the pot.
