Grace O'Malley Announces 'Last Day' at Barstool Sports: 'I'm Just as Surprised as You Are'
Grace O'Malley was cohost of "PlanBri Uncut" alongside Brianna "Chickenfry" LaPaglia since 2022
Grace O'Malley has an announcement to make.
The 22-year-old comedian shared on her Instagram Story that she's officially parting ways with Barstool Sports, uploading a photo of herself alongside an explanation that announced the news of her departure.
"I wanted you guys to hear from me first that this is my last day at Barstool. I'm so grateful to everyone at the company and to [Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy] for taking a chance on me. I'm just as surprised as you are there are no typos in this statement," read the post uploaded on Monday, Dec. 16.
O'Malley, whose career evolved as a social media personality to a stand-up comic in recent months, was cohost of Barstool's PlanBri Uncut. She worked alongside Brianna "Chieckenfry" LaPaglia, who started the podcast in college before asking O'Malley to join in 2022.
The last episode of PlanBri Uncut, which featured comedic episodes about how to navigate life in your twenties through shared experiences, was released on Oct. 20. In the months that followed, rumors started to swirl online about the co-hosts and their friendship status.
Reps for LaPaglia, O'Malley and Barstool did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.
News of O'Malley's departure from Barstool comes less than a week after LaPaglia shared her side of the story regarding their friendship amid rumors of a rift between the pair. She opened up on the BFFs podcast which she cohosts with Josh Richards and Dave Portnoy on Dec. 11.
"I'm always gonna have love for Grace [and] will always cherish everything that we did with PlanBri," she explained, addressing her recent silence on the matter. "I've just kinda let everyone make their own opinions."
As to why she decided to speak out, LaPaglia said the time came where she had to "lay it all out there" and "defend" herself. She then explained the origins of PlanBri Uncut, noting that it began as a solo podcast in college before asking O'Malley to join upon their move to New York together.
Elsewhere in the podcast, LaPaglia said the breakdown of her friendship with O'Malley began as she dated Zach Bryan — who she split from in October this year — claiming that O'Malley "never defended me" despite knowing about the alleged emotional abuse she dealt with from the singer.
"She knew everything behind the scenes," LaPaglia claimed of O'Malley. "When the internet started attacking me, they only lifted Grace up when they were beating me down. And it was, like, whatever, because it helped her career and she was fine and happy about it."
"But it got to a point where she was never defending me," LaPaglia continued. When her breakup with Bryan was announced in October, she also decided to end PlanBri Uncut on Oct. 15.
"We're sitting there, pretending to be friends and I didn't feel seen by her [so I] set a boundary," LaPaglia said, adding, "I gave her everything and I would do it all over again."

In early December, LaPaglia teased a new version of PlanBri Uncut without O'Malley on her Instagram Stories when Spotify Wrapped was released. O'Malley then uploaded a statement on her Instagram Stories on Dec. 6, confirming the end of her time on the podcast.
O'Malley claimed it was the first time she was "hearing about" LaPaglia's new plans for the podcast.
“[I’m] proud of what we built, nostalgic for all these years and frankly outright heartbroken that this chapter has closed," she said, per Us Weekly. “But, we agreed to make a joint statement, so I replied, cried, and chose not to repost or say anything until it was time."
O'Malley then deemed her time on the podcast the “favorite part of this chapter” of her life, noting that she was "eternally grateful“ to get to "work with my best friend.” She also made it clear that she planned to stay with Barstool and would be back "chit-chatting on a weekly basis."
