Golden Goose Hosts Co-creation Cocktail With Mexican Artist Valfré During Miami Art Week

On Wednesday night at the Forward Store Miami, Mexico-based artist Valfré was busy drawing on a Golden Goose sneaker. The artist, who has an exhibition at the SCOPE fair, was tapped by the brand for a co-creation experience with VIP guests including Devon Windsor, Miami Dolphins linebacker Duke Riley and Karolina Kurková, a cohost for the event.

Kurková lauded the Golden Goose customization experience, beloved by her daughter, as well as the brand’s sustainability initiatives.

“I love that in the store here, you can bring any of your old shoes and you repurpose them,” said Kurková, nodding toward a bin of multibrand sneakers in the shop. “It could be any brand. How many old pairs of sneakers do we have but we don’t know what to do with them? They’re beat up, or you don’t want to donate them because they’re not as nice to donate to someone. They take it and repurpose them, and recycle them.”

“Everybody’s been so fun,” Valfré said after handing off her latest customized creation to its enthusiastic new owner. “In an age that everything is so separated, it feels really nice to do this, you know?” she added. “I’m usually very shy. You know, when you work in your studio, nobody’s with you. Everybody’s here, but it’s been so pleasant. Everybody’s been so smart. The team of Golden Goose has been amazing. So, it’s been a great experience.”

The brand visited the artist at home in Mexico — “a very small town by the beach; a little hard to get to” — last week to film her for their video series. “It was lovely. It was not long ago that we started talking,” she added. “A lot has happened in the last two weeks.”
