Glen Powell has officially embraced the capybara meme.

In a Hot One Versus interview posted on July 15, Powell, 35, and his Twisters costar Daisy Edgar-Jones, 26, were challenged to either answer “deeply personal questions” or eat a spicy chicken wing.

During the "Friendship Test" portion of the segment, Powell asked Edgar-Jones, “If I could be any animal, what would I be?” The Normal People actress first answered that Powell would be his dog Brisket, before guessing he would be a “bunny" or a "rat," which he found “insulting.”

The Hit Man actor then answered that he would be a capybara, revealing “the internet thinks I look like a capybara.” Edgar-Jones then asked him to do the “capybara face” to show off the resemblance.

At the end of the interview, Edgar-Jones called Powell a “capybara looking piece of s---” and a “capybara son of a gun” when he was asked to “nail a putt three times” to win the wing-eating competition. Powell missed all three putts, giving his costar the win.

The original capybara comparison stemmed from a 2016 photo of Powell that began circulating around the internet back in April 2023. A person on X (formerly known as Twitter) posted that Powell “looks like a capybara who made a wish to become human,” leading to his resemblance to the South American animal becoming a meme.

Powell previously addressed the viral meme in an interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in December 2023.

“Years ago, I did a movie where I basically didn’t get invited to the premiere, but I really wanted to go,” he explained. “It was here in New York City, and so I got my own suit and did my own styling and I showed up and was really excited.”

Based on the photo, he recalled that he might have been a little “too excited” to be at the premiere. Then, years later, “someone said I look like a capybara who made a wish to become human and it kind of stuck.”

Powell laughed off the meme and called the internet a “great place.” He even revealed that he “owns the capybara thing now.”

“I am the capybara,” he declared.

Twisters premieres in theaters on July 17.
