‘Gilmore Girls’ Actor Scott Cohen is ‘Truly Grateful’ to Be Alive After Head-On Collision in Car Chase
Scott Cohen, whom many fans will recognize as the character Max Medina in Gilmore Girls, among other prominent roles, revealed that he and his wife were unsure if they would make it after a car crash earlier this summer.
While the crash occurred in late June, resulting in him and wife Anastasia Traina being hospitalized with serious injuries, the actor was able to attend the New York City premiere of The Penguin, which he appears in, on Sept. 17.
“We thought we were dead," he told Page Six at the event. "My wife’s arm is all messed up. I have a broken sternum, which is supposed to be never-healing. It’s like called a nonunion break, and it’s never going to heal.”
The crash occurred on June 29, as reported by the Astoria Post, after a man who was pulled over for a routine traffic stop drove off, starting a car chase that ended in Brooklyn when the driver drove head-on into Cohen's vehicle.
The perpetrator then got out and ran off as his car burst into flames, firing a gun at a pursuing officer before jumping a fence and evading arrest. It's unclear if he was eventually apprehended or not.
Cohen shared the news on Instagram, posting footage of himself in his hospital bed as he received treatment, as well as a clip of the couple's totaled car, with the front smashed in and the airbags visible. He also showed a small clip of an arm cast.
Calling his injuries "the impact of a random act of aggression," Cohen reflected on the incident as he said, "I’m very pissed my existence right now is about healing but at the same time truly grateful @afunnybunnypicture and I are both here to experience the love and incredible generosity of friends and family."
It appears that Cohen and his wife are currently doing well and they were able to celebrate The Penguin's premiere together. The couple, who were married in 1989, share a son named Liam.
