Gigi Hadid Channeled Blair Waldorf With Red Tights on the Versace Runway
Princess Diana was also a fan of tomato-colored hosiery.
If there's one thing Blair Waldorf owned more than headbands, it was tights. During Gossip Girl's five-year run, Blair (played by Leighton Meester) wore all kinds of hosiery—from transparent white to classic black and cobalt blue. But one pair that stands out in our minds are the tomato red stockings she wore with a Y2K tube dress and black patent-leather heels while strolling the streets of the Upper East Side with BFF Serena van der Woodsen.
Now, nearly two decades later, a new queen bee is putting her own spin on red tights. On Friday, Gigi Hadid walked the Versace spring-summer 2025 runway show during Milan Fashion Week, wearing a one-shouldered blue-and-brown floral dress with a sheer pair of crimson-colored stockings underneath. While Hadid's tights weren't as bright red as Blair's version, they still made a bold statement—especially when teamed with open-toed heels.
Hadid completed her high-fashion look with a black leather clutch, a collection of cocktail rings, and a silver bangle on one wrist. Her blonde bob was styled sleek and straight with a middle part, while her glam consisted of a dark berry lip and soft, shimmery eye makeup.
Well before Blair and Gigi hopped on the red tights trend, Princess Diana was also rocking colorful stockings (red, included). While visiting Florence alongside Prince Charles in 1985, the Princess of Wales paired her cherry-hued skirt suit with matching stockings and heels, and several years later, she attended a Paul McCartney concert in a burgundy velvet dress with a coordinating pair of sheer tights.
What can we say? Everything old is always new again.
