Yahoo Lifestyle German Box Office Hit ‘School of Magical Animals 3’ Sells to Multiple Territories, Epsilon Takes Sales Rights to Fourth Installment (EXCLUSIVE)
Epsilon Film has revealed the first presales deals for family entertainment film “School of Magical Animals 3” as the latest installment in the hit franchise continues to dominate the German box office. The sales agency has also secured worldwide rights to the recently filmed “School of Magical Animals 4.”
Epsilon has closed presale deals on the third installment for Scandinavia (Another World Entertainment), Hungary (ADS), Poland (Nowe Horyzonty), CIS (Voxell), Baltics (GPI), Israel (Red Cape Distribution), Ex-Yugoslavia (Karantanija Cinemas) and Bulgaria (Pro Films). Worldwide airline rights were sold to Eagle International.

“School of Magical Animals 3” took $4.2 million on its opening weekend at the German box office after it was released on Sept. 26 by Leonine, placing it ninth in the worldwide box office rankings. By Oct. 19, it had grossed $16.4 million. The film continues to dominate the German charts, occupying the number one spot after four weeks on release.
The first two films collectively grossed over $36.5 million in Germany and were sold in over 100 countries, including the U.S., where they were released by Blue Fox.
“The School of Magical Animals 3,” which is a co-production between Kordes & Kordes Film Süd, Leonine and Lightburst Pictures, is directed by Sven Unterwaldt (“The 7th Dwarf,” “Help, I Shrunk My Teacher”).
The franchise is based on Margit Auer’s best-selling series of books, sold in 26 countries. The films are set in an unusual school, Winterstein, where the children receive a magical animal as a companion. They combine live-action shots of the children with CGI-animated animals.
Epsilon signed the deal for “School of Magical Animals 4” with producer Kordes & Kordes Film Süd. The film is set to be released in Germany on Oct. 2, 2025, by Leonine, which is also serving as co-producer.
The fourth installment, which is directed by Bernhard Jasper and Maggie Peren, features a new magical adventure at Winterstein. Ida’s friend Miriam arrives at the school for three months, but a secret threatens to tear them apart. Miriam is entrusted with the tarsier Fitzgeraldo, while Max, deeply in love, is given the owl Muriel. Meanwhile, the sale of the school is imminent – and the future of the magical community is in peril. Will the upcoming school challenge be the saving grace?
