George Clooney claps back at Quentin Tarantino for dragging his film career: 'F‑‑‑ off'

"I don't mind giving him s‑‑‑. He gave me s‑‑‑."

Hell hath no fury like a George Clooney scorned.

In a recent GQ interview with his Wolfs costar Brad Pitt, Clooney fired back at Quentin Tarantino — whom he starred alongside in the 1996 film, From Dusk Till Dawn — for trashing almost his entire filmography in an interview last year.

“Quentin said some s--- about me recently, so I’m a little irritated by him,” he said. “He did some interview where he was naming movie stars, and he was talking about [Pitt], and somebody else, and then this guy goes, ‘Well, what about George?’ He goes, he’s not a movie star.”

Clooney continued, “And then he literally said something like, ‘Name me a movie since the millennium.’ And I was like, ‘Since the millennium? That’s kind of my whole f---ing career.’”

Representatives for Clooney and Tarantino did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly's request for comment. However, Clooney appears to be referencing Deadline columnist Baz Bamigboye’s conversation with Tarantino from last July, wherein the filmmaker declared that actors like Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio were certainly movie stars, but that Clooney definitively wasn’t.

“It’s been a long while since I think George Clooney has drawn anybody to an audience,” Tarantino said at the time. “When was the last time that he had a hit in this millennial?”

When Bamigboye attempted to come to Clooney’s defense, Tarantino doubled down, reiterating, “Well, I’m asking you, when was his last hit where he drew an audience?”

Clooney has, of course, had several hit films since the turn of the century, including the immensely successful Ocean's trilogy alongside Pitt and Matt Damon. He also won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Syriana in 2005, and was nominated in the Best Actor category for his performances in 2007's Michael Clayton, 2009's Up in the Air, and 2011'sThe Descendants.

While Tarantino’s remarks drew laughter from Pitt during their GQ interview, Clooney certainly didn't find them funny. “So now I’m like, all right, dude, f--- off,” he explained. “I don’t mind giving him s---. He gave me s---.”

Still, Clooney maintained that — movie star or not — both he and Pitt are “really lucky we got to work with these great directors” in their respective careers.

“Director and screenplay is what keeps you alive. And I learned that after doing some really bad films,' he said. "You can’t make a good film out of a bad script. You can’t do it. You can make a bad film out of a good script. You can f--- it up."
