For many travellers, the ironing board is one of those hotel room features that often goes unused, tucked away in a corner or a closet. However one clever tourist has shared a simple travel hack that puts this often overlooked item to a totally different use, shining new light on its potential and, in doing so, igniting a lively debate online.

The inventive idea was shared in a popular Facebook travel group, where a recently returned traveller posted, "Handy ironing board hack for those sharing a room with a mate... you're welcome!" Accompanying her message was a photo of an ironing board set up between two single beds in a hotel room, serving as a makeshift table for beers and snacks. The post quickly went viral, racking up nearly 30,000 likes and a flurry of comments.

One enthusiastic commenter wrote, "Best use for an ironing board I've ever seen," while another agreed, adding, "the ONLY use!"

Indeed, the comments were full of witty remarks and praise for the creative idea. "Oh, that's what that thing they always have in the cupboard is for!" laughed one person.

Another user chimed in, "What a great idea, better than putting it down the middle of the bed!"

"Genius!" exclaimed one user.

"Omg, I love a snackie board," added another.

"Finally a decent use for this thing," wrote a third.

"Very resourceful indeed! Cheers!" commented another, envisioning beers and snacks, maybe even a laptop for a movie right in the middle.

However, not everyone was on board with the idea. Some commenters pointed out more practical alternatives.

"Or just use the bedside table on each side," suggested one user, which seemed like an obvious alternative.

Others raised concerns about the cleanliness of the ironing board. "I pity the person that irons their clothes on it if anything has been spilled on it," said another.

All in all, the hack just goes to show the creativity and resourcefulness that often come with travel. When you're in a new place and working with limited resources, sometimes you have to think outside the box – or, in this case, outside the bedside table.

Cheers to never looking at an ironing board the same way again!
