Gayle King Divulges Graphic Details After Oprah 'Ended Up in the Hospital'

Gayle King opened up about why Oprah Winfrey was missing from a planned CBS guest appearance.

The TV personality shared graphic details about the legendary broadcaster (and her best friend) being hospitalized due to an illness.

During CBS Mornings on Tuesday, June 11, King and her fellow anchors hosted author David Wroblewski, whose new book, Familiaris, is one of the latest additions to Winfrey's famed book club.

The newscaster explained why Oprah was missing, revealing she was under the weather with a stomach bug that landed her in the hospital.

Further, she explained how bad the symptoms were: "She had some kind of stomach thing... stomach flu. Stuff was coming out of both ends. I won't get too graphic. Needless to say, she ended up in the hospital, dehydration, had to get an IV; it was a very serious thing."

Stomach flu, also known as gastroenteritis, is an "intestinal infection that includes signs and symptoms such as watery diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea or vomiting, and sometimes fever" contracted via contact with an infected person or by consuming contaminated food or water, according to Mayo Clinic.

Luckily, the O magazine namesake is on the mend now, though Gayle admitted she hopes her bestie doesn't mind her sharing some details about her health and whereabouts with the public.

"I hope she's not mad at me for sharing that detail," King said, "But I wanted to make it clear, though, that it mattered to her and that it really bothered her that she couldn't be here for you today."
