Your full moon calendar for 2025 - and what it all means

Come hell or high water, whatever life brings, you can rely on the lunar cycle. Every 29.5 days, the moon goes through its full rotation, meaning that most months have a Full Moon and a New Moon for you to enjoy and use. You can organise your life and projects around these lunar milestones - in fact, many people think you should! But when are the Full Moons in 2025?

A Full Moon occurs when the Moon is exactly opposite the Sun in its rotation around the Earth, therefore it’s fully ‘lit’ by the Sun and looks full and luminous from our perspective on Earth. There are two occasions a year when the Moon is closer to Earth at this point in its rotation, which makes it look even bigger and brighter. We call those Full Moons, Supermoons!

Astrologically, a Full Moon is a time to pause for reflection, review, celebration, completion or release. Emotions are heightened and secrets are loosened when the moon is at full beam, it literally illuminates and intensifies our feelings. So, a Full Moon is more about processing what’s been going on, rather than taking big steps or making new decisions - unless it's something that’s been a long time coming (like leaving a miserable job or relationship.)

This mindful break in proceedings, prompted by each Full Moon, presents a good way to get in the habit of reflecting on your life as it unfolds, and planning what your next few weeks will be about as a result of that.

Full Moon zodiac signs

Each Full Moon occurs in a different zodiac sign, and it’s not the sign that the event itself happens in. It’s actually its opposite sign (the one six spaces ahead in the zodiac, that sits opposite it on the zodiac ‘wheel’.)

So, for instance, the January Full Moon happens in Capricorn season, which means it’s a Full Moon in Cancer. February’s Full Moon, which happens in Aquarius season ,will be a Full Moon in Leo.

The other opposite sign pairings are as follows: Pisces and Virgo, Aries and Libra, Taurus and Scorpio, Gemini and Sagittarius.

The Full Moon’s sign is relevant because it allocates a certain theme to the lunar energy swirling around you, and this means you can focus on different life areas at each Full Moon. Again, this is a great practice to adopt, even as just a mindful way to process and plan your life as you move through it. The zodiac signs, and relevant life area, are listed below.

  • 13th January – Full Moon in Cancer: relationships, security, home

  • 12th February – Full Moon in Leo: love, creativity, leadership

What to do during a Full Moon

This is a potent time for magic, spell-craft, charging magical objects or crystals, healing or releasing rituals, soul searching, personal development work, and intimate conversations with people you trust and care deeply for.

Remember, everything is a little heightened on a Full Moon (including the day before and afterwards), so you should use this intensity for whatever good you can. Equally, if you choose to start an argument or engage in an angry or negative situation, you will likely find yourself getting your fingers burnt!

If you’re hoping to release or end something…

Write down what you want to leave behind this Full Moon, in ink, on a piece of paper. Then take a long, soothing bath, ideally candlelit, ideally even moonlit (if you can safely and privately let a chink of moonlight into your space).
Put the piece of paper in your bath.

Imagine the freedom, happiness, relief and liberation you will feel once you have released whatever it is and moved on. Embrace this future version of yourself.
Visualise whatever you want to release draining away from you as you let the bathwater out. Stay in the bath until it is empty. Savour the sensation of the water ebbing away and taking whatever you don’t want with it.

Retrieve the (very soggy) piece of paper and bury it.

If you’re hoping to heal or understand something…

Pour yourself a glass of water and take it to the window on Full Moon night, just before you go to bed. Holding the glass, ask the question you wish were answered or the situation / emotion you wish to be healed from. Then leave your glass of water on the window sill, in the light of the Full Moon, all night long.

You may find yourself dreaming of answers, insights, relevant symbols or scenes, during the night. Your dreams may be charged so keep a notepad handy next to your bedside.
When you awaken, write everything down and, before you do anything else, go to your ‘moon water’ and drink it straight down.

The day ahead will now bring you emotional and mental progress, keep an open mind, and write everything you think and feel down. You can make sense of it at the end of the day. You have been ‘illuminated’.
