Former ‘Brady Bunch’ Star Pleads With Fans in Emphatic PSA: ‘Spreading the Word’
Maureen McCormick took to Instagram on Wednesday, March 5 to spread the word about not using the R word as “a joke, for a laugh, or to bully or hurt someone.”
“Words—they can lift up or tear down. I do not understand how anyone can use the R word as a joke, for a laugh, or to bully or hurt someone,” the former Brady Bunch star wrote in her post. “Please join me on Spread the Word Day and everyday in helping to end the R word. Let’s stand up against derogatory language, bullying and exclusion. Take the pledge now & make your voice count! brnw.ch/21wR7wG #ChooseToInclude 🩵”
The post is accompanied by a photo of the actress--who starred as the eldest sister Marcia Brady in the classic ‘70s sitcom--alongside her brother Denny, who has intellectual disabilities. Both are wearing light blue shirts with the words "spread the word" displayed on the front.
Aside from speaking out now, McCormick, 68, also has worked to promote the achievements of those with disabilities. In 2020, she was named a Global Ambassador for Special Olympics International.
