First trailer for Back To The Rafters on Amazon Prime Video released

One of Australia's favourite TV families is returning to our screens in Back to the Rafters on Amazon Prime Video.

Fans have been given their first look at the reboot in a new trailer, with the six-part series kicking off on September 17, eight years after the original series finished.

The reboot picks up six years on from when we last saw the Rafter family. Dave (Erik Thomson) and Julie (Rebecca Gibney) have created a new life in the country with youngest daughter Ruby (Willow Speers).

As everyone comes together in Sydney to celebrate Dave and Julie’s 35th Anniversary, history repeats and circumstances force them all to cram into Ben’s two-bedroom home – once again packed to the-you-know-what.

Much of the original cast has returned for the reboot, including Rebecca Gibney, Erik Thomson, Hugh Sheridan, Angus McLaren, Michael Caton and George Houvardas.

Jessica Marais was initially signed up to reprise her role as Rachel, but had to drop out just before filming began and has been replaced by Georgina Haig.

The show will not only return for Aussies but will also premiere in over 240 countries and territories around the world.

Earlier this year, Rebecca Gibney shared her excitement for the reboot on her Instagram, alongside a photo of the cast.

"It was such a joy to reunite with this family (with some fantastic new additions) And in a year that brought so much uncertainty - this was definitely one of my highlights from 2020," she wrote.

Fans have shared their excitement at the return of the show on social media, though some have lamented the fact the series is no longer on Free to Air television.

"Woohooo I can’t wait! Currently re-watching the old seasons, with lockdown I’m sure I’ll be able to finish all 6 seasons before September 17. Thanks for bringing this show back," was one excited comment on Facebok.

"Loved this show. Looking forward to the follow up," another wrote.

"Emotional just watching the Promos."

But one person wrote: "Very disappointed that this series is not on free to air TV. I loved it."

And another agreed: "Wish it would come back to commercial television. Not everyone has pay TV."

In response to those comments Amazon Prime wrote on Facebook: "Amazon Prime Video is releasing the new series, Back to the Rafters, for audiences all over the world. While it's been produced by the same writer and crew, and features many of the original cast, Amazon believed this show deserves a bigger global audience. There's no reason to miss out because you can start a 30-day free trial and binge all the episodes on September 17."

Back to the Rafters premieres exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on September 17.
