The feature revolves around two young men on different sides of the globe, one in Canada, one in Africa, who connect through their search for the truth about their absent fathers.
In the wake of his father’s disappearance at sea, Kojo, a young Ghanaian is drawn into a world of street gang and deception.
Meanwhile, in Quebec, Tony discovers his mother’s relationship with a mysterious sailor who may hold the key to finding the father he’s never met. Determined to find answers, Tony travels to Ghana, unknowingly crossing paths with Kojo in a journey that will change both their lives.
“Paradise beautifully intertwines the emotionally charged story of two young men, seemingly worlds apart, whose paths will collide against all odds,” said Films Constellation CEO Fabien Westerhoff, who also heads up its Constellation Productions arm.
“With the same precision that he demonstrated in his previous work, Jérémy has crafted a gripping and thought-provoking tale of human vulnerability, trust, and the search for belonging across cultures and continents.
Newcomers Joey Boivin-Desmeules and Daniel Atsu Hukporti star as Tony and Kojo, with cinematography by Olivier Gossot (Fauve, Young Juliette), production design by Sylvain Lemaitre (The Successor), music by Valentin Hadjadj (Close, Girl), and sound design by Sandy Notariani (The Father).
The feature is produced by Entract Studios’ Tim Ringuette (Red Rooms), EMAfilms’ Anne-Marie Gelinas (Beans), Constellation Productions’ Westerhoff (The Lesson), and executive produced by Elevation Pictures’ Noah Segal (Infinity Pool) and Christina Piovesan, with the support of Telefilm Canada, SODEC, Eurimages and the Quebec provincial and Canadian federal tax credit programs, in coproduction with Arte France Cinema.
Elevation Pictures, which is currently releasing a number of high-profile awards contenders including The Brutalist, Babygirl, Conclave, and Anora, will distribute the film in Canada, with Entract Films handling Quebec
