Fergie says royal 'feud' reminds her of being 'pitted against' Diana

The young royals may be the most popular members of the family now, but before Harry and Meghan or Kate and William were around, Fergie and Diana were the talk of the town.

And now, 59-year-old Sarah Ferguson has spoken up about the hate the Duchess of Sussex and the Duchess of Cambridge have been receiving online, claiming it reminds her of how she and Diana were ‘pitted against’ each other back in the day.

In a column the Duchess of York wrote for Hello! magazine, she addressed the alleged ‘feud’ between Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton, claiming ‘it’s time to take a stand’.

“Bullying, sniping, b***hing, even the most appalling sexism, racism and homophobia are commonplace – it seems that online, anything goes,” Fergie wrote.

“Women, in particular, are constantly pitted against and compared with each other in a way that reminds me of how people tried to portray Diana and me all the time as rivals, which is something neither of us ever really felt.

“It’s time to confront head on the fact that much of social media has become a sewer.”

Fergie went on to say it’s ‘unacceptable’ what’s being said about the Duchess’ online and claimed it could ‘impact on people’s mental health’.

Later, the mum of Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie took to her Instagram to promote the column, saying she wrote it as part of the magazine’s #HelloToKindness campaign.

“People feel licensed to say things online that they would never dream of saying to someone’s face and that encourages others to join in,” she wrote.

“It’s so ubiquitous that we have all become numb to what is going on. It is time to take a stand.”

Indeed, Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton have been plagued with rumours of a reported feud in Kensington Palace since last year.

And while no members of the royal family have ever addressed the rumours, people online have been commenting on the so-called drama on the Kensington Palace Instagram page.

So much so that it was reported palace aides have been seeking help from Instagram to monitor comment about Kate and Meghan on the official Instagram account.

According to Hello! magazine, racist, sexist, and even threatening comments have been directed at the Duchesses online, with the issue becoming so large that royal aides are seeking help to learn tools on how they can tackle the abuse.

A source revealed to the publication, that while the palace has always monitored comments, it has become more and more time consuming.

“They can block certain words, but some of it is quite serious,” a source said.
