The moment that started Kate and Meghan's 'royal feud'
More and more reports are coming forward about the alleged rift between Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton, and now it’s being claimed that everything kicked off over a disagreement about palace personnel.
If sources are to be believed, the Duchess of Cambridge had a row with her new sister-in-law because she didn’t like the way Meghan spoke to members of her staff in the lead up to her and Prince Harry’s May wedding.
“That’s unacceptable, they’re my staff and I speak to them,” mum-of-three Kate is supposed to have said, according to an insider who spoke to The Sun.
That same person also added: “It’s a tricky situation but it was a one-off and they [Kate and Meghan] are determined to maintain a positive relationship even though they are obviously very different in their approach”.
The incident sounds like a similar report that emerged about a bridesmaid dress fitting prior to the wedding, which reportedly left Kate in tears.
Indeed, rumours have been swirling of a rift between the Cambridges and the Sussexes since it was revealed that Harry and Meghan will be moving away from neighbours William and Kate at Kensington Palace, and into a Windsor estate instead.
Body language expert Judi James last week suggested that the ‘first signs’ of tension between Kate and Meghan actually began months ago when they and their husbands first positioned themselves as the “fab four”.
“For me, the very first signs of potential future rifts between these two women came when they appeared on stage together,” she told Mirror Online.
“Meghan was still using some postural mirroring of Kate as an understandable integration technique into the royal firm but all the poses that seem to show the two women laughing together are slightly misleading.”
Judi suggested that during that time, Kate instinctively looked to be “protecting their ‘territory’ from a usurper” and was not accustomed to having to share her inside jokes that she used to have with Harry.
And it seems the sister-in-laws’ outing to Wimbledon was “the one and only time any effort was made” to initiate a genuine friendship between the two Duchesses.
“They laughed together and used head closeness and some eye contact to suggest rapport but since then we have only really seen more formal poses from them, often with a rather regal looking Kate standing in front as Queen to be while Meghan stands behind or to the side,” Judi claimed.
The two Duchesses are said to be “very different people,” with Kate being more of a royal traditionalist while Meghan likes to push the boundaries and encourage change.
Judi added that she’s yet to see any actual animosity between the two ladies but likewise hasn’t seen any genuine indications of friendship.
