Dita von Teese: “I Have No Body Confidence”

Dita Von Teese has "no confidence" off the stage.

The burlesque star wouldn't be able to dance naked if it wasn't for good lighting and body makeup because the real her is too "shy".

"I feel so docile,” she told Vanity Fair magazine. “It's me, but it's not. It's not who I choose to be. Heather Sweet (her real name) from Michigan has no confidence. She's shy.

"But I wouldn't stand there buck naked. I have beautiful lighting everywhere, rhinestones everywhere, feathers everywhere. I wear layers of body makeup. It's all super-controlled. And it's a far cry from the person I really am."

The 43-year-old glamour model - who runs her own titular lingerie line - also thinks one "bad photo" could be fatal to her career and has banned fans from taking photographs of her on their phones because the lighting will be rubbish.

She previously said: "Growing up I was mediocre looking. Even now, I see a photo of myself taken in bad lighting and think I should quit what I do immediately. There is so much of it now. I feel bad sometimes when I say no to a fan who wants an iPhone picture but we'll be in the worst lighting possible and I think, 'I don't want this to be my legacy.'

"My favourite thing now is when someone has a conversation with me and they don't ask for a picture. I love that."
