Fans Shower Valerie Bertinelli With Support as She Announces Major Life Change

Fans are flooding Valerie Bertinelli with support and praise after the actress revealed a major change made in her life earlier this year.

The One Day at a Time alum took to Instagram late in the evening on Monday, July 1, with a bare-faced photo that appeared to be taken in front of her garden, with the bright sunlight filtering down over her hair and glasses. She wore a pair of patterned, circular-framed glasses, and pressed her hand to her cheek as she smiled softly at the camera.

"Six months. No alcohol," she captioned the make-up free selfie, tagging the Reframe App—an application designed to help reduce alcohol consumption that she's been using ever since she participated in "Dry January" earlier this year—as she shared the impressive milestone with her fans.

Fans were quick to share their own stories of sobriety to support the actress, with one revealing that they were celebrating six years of sobriety after 46 years of addiction. "I didn't realize how much of my life I was missing," they admitted.

"That’s wonderful! Congratulations 🎉," another added, sharing that their four years and eight months of sobriety is "one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself!"

Someone else agreed that they "feel dramatically better" after quitting, even though they weren't "a huge drinker."

"It only gets better and better," another comment assured. "Almost 3 years for me and haven't looked back. Best decision ever ❤️."

The former producer of Ellen, Andy Lassner, added, "That is a huge deal. Congrats."

"👏👏👏 What an inspiration you are!" someone else applauded.

Others jumped to her defense, too, as some questioned the decision—leading Bertinelli to cheekily respond, "Why not? 😜."

One person, who stopped drinking for their health, shared that "people still push alcohol on me."

"It’s so weird," they added, pointing out that you "wouldn’t do that to a drug addict or someone who quit smoking."

"'No' is a full sentence and does not require an explanation!" another agreed.
