'Heartbroken': Fans shocked as Poh Ling Yeow is eliminated from MasterChef

Fans were shocked on Sunday night when Poh Ling Yeow was eliminated from MasterChef in a two-round challenge set my guest judge Phil Wood.

Sadly, Poh's culurgiones with a half-parsley pasta and truffle, brown butter and lemon sauce wasn't enough to get her to the next stage of the competition.

It was a dish that she had failed at before, with the chef calling it her redemption dish, however, she struggled to decide what to make while she was already halfway through the challenge.

"I think I met the brief, I featured potato, but I've also got a very distinct feeling that I haven't chosen the right dish to do. I just don't feel satisfied and for me that's my gut telling me it hasn't been the right decision," she said as she walked her dish to the judges, acknowledging her mistake.

She added, "I'm just so frustrated with my own personality sometimes. Like, I just get really obsessive when I get things wrong."

"And it just really got to me that I did so badly with Phil's sauce. And I was like, 'Oh, I can kill two birds with one stone.'

"And I just couldn't get it up. I just, like, didn't do what I wanted to do."

The judges revealed that they found the pasta was undercooked and the sauce wasn't good enough either.

The contestants were shocked to hear the Poh would be going home with judge Melissa Leong summing it up by saying, "Poh, you are a national treasure. Every day we could be guaranteed we would get all of your heart, all of your soul, all of your love and all of your commitment.

“You have been part of the MasterChef Australia family since day one and it has been the greatest privilege to have you back in this kitchen and cooking with us."

Callum Hann also added, "I think when people around this country would think of the word MasterChef, you're probably the image that gets conjured up in their mind, for all the wonderful things we love about you.

"I think what Australia gets to see is Poh's incredible cooking skill, but what they might not necessarily see is what she's like as a person behind the scenes as well, which is pretty incredible, which is why I'm feeling quite emotional."

Poh broke down in tears as she walked off the stage and said, "MasterChef really made me understand how important food needed to be in my life the first time, and it's done it again. I'm just really grateful."

Fans took to social media to share their sadness at Poh's elimination with many echoing Melissa's statement that she is a "national treasure".
