Is Jenna Bush Hager's next career venture going to involve Broadway? If Kelly Clarkson has anything to say about it, the answer may be yes!
The NBC host appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show on January 28, where she was promoting her work on the Today show. When the subject of Jenna wanting to be in a musical came to focus, Kelly mentioned she'd heard through the grapevine about this dream of Jenna's. As the children's book author disclosed about theater being something she's always wanted to do, it also led Jenna to inquire about if Kelly ever wanted to sing on Broadway.
"I did hear something — you want to be in a Broadway musical, which you are in the right city for," Kelly began in a clip posted on YouTube.
"Yeah, as a little kid, I wanted to be in a Broadway musical," Jenna replied. "Was that your dream too, because you had talent?"
"I started in theater, definitely," Kelly stated back. "I did all the musical theater and plays and stuff like that — that's where I started. But no, I knew I always wanted to do what I'm doing, in that way."
That wasn't all the two had to say on the topic. Jenna shared how she once tried out for a regional production of the classic musical Les Misérables back in Texas, and later joked about not getting the part. But it did cause her to say she didn't think she had the same talent as Kelly... leading Kelly to state there are always chances for her to get a role on the Great White Way.
Now, here's where the interview took the best turn. When Kelly noted Dolly Parton was producing a musical about her life, Jenna joked she'd already "auditioned" for the show when she sang "Jolene"on Today in 2019. As a result, she and Kelly both began to sing a snippet of the hit track, with Jenna stating she may need some work before hitting the stage.
"You sang it on key! You did everything right!" Kelly exclaimed. "What are you talking about?"
"Maybe I should do voice lessons in 2025," Jenna replied.
Despite Jenna's singing reservations, viewers loved seeing her unexpected duet with Kelly on the air.
"We love Jenna Bush Hager and Kelly Clarkson," one person wrote in the YouTube comments. "That was awesome 😎 Really just love how Kelly encourages others — just watch her heart and soul talk to them, just like her singing speaks to the world," another noted. "They are sooo Texas!! 🤠," a different follower added.
