Fans Lose It Over Newly Single Andrew Garfield's Unexpected Date for Red Carpet Event

Fans feel even more love for Andrew Garfield after seeing the unexpected “date" he brought with him to a recent red carpet event.

The Spider-Man star was attending a special screening on Thursday, Oct. 17, for his new movie, We Live in Time, at the 68th BFI London Film Festival in London, England, when he put his unusual plus one on display. Rather than posing on the red carpet beside his We Live in Time co-star, Florence Pugh, Garfield stood beside a cardboard cutout of the 28-year-old actress. Pugh was unable to attend the screening in person because she was busy working on location in New Zealand for another project.

Garfield, 41, and the Midsommar actress previously attended a different screening of their new film last month in New York City, where they posed together on the red carpet. The cardboard cutout of Pugh that Garfield pulled out for Thursday’s event showed the Little Women star wearing the same outfit she wore during that earlier screening in New York.

Video footage from the red carpet showed Garfield, whose ex-girlfriend Kate Tomas confirmed their split on social media last week, nonchalantly guiding the cardboard cutout and delicately placing it beside him before putting one arm around it, leaving his hand to rest on Pugh's cardboard waist. Sillier snapshots shared on social media showed The Social Network star carrying the cardboard cutout horizontally and crouching behind it as he pointed up at the image of his absent co-star.

“Does she know what kind of chaos erupts in her absence?” one social media user joked as another dubbed Garfield’s move “iconic.”

Garfield is “so unserious,” one fan observed as another said their “only goal in life” was “to be this carefree and unbothered.”

“Even with a cardboard cutout, he steals the show effortlessly!” one fan praised.

“Crazy This is why we love him thou,” another fan declared.

While one person said they “love him so much for this,” another suggested Garfield’s red carpet appearance gave them an idea for future parties, writing, “me arriving at next work function with cardboard andrew garfield.”
