Few Bravolationships (we’re trying to make the term a thing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) have captivated audiences quite like Lindsay Hubbard and Carl Radke’s romance. The two initially crossed paths in 2016 while filming season 1 of the hit Bravo series Summer House and had a brief ~fling~ during season 4 of the show before ultimately deciding they were better off as friends.

Fast-forward to January 2022, and the reality stars picked things right back up on the ’ship front once it was revealed that they were dating IRL. And before we knew it, these two were getting engaged on the beach in a surprise (erm, costar Paige DeSorbo would like a word about that word, lol) proposal the following summer.

Because fans of the show got to see the entire trajectory of Lindsay and Carl’s love story play out over literal years, they (read: us) were sad to see them ultimately call it quits in September 2023. The good news though? The celebs are both moving on and have a buncha exciting things in the works! Case in point? Lindsay has a literal baby on the way (!!!) and Carl is opening up a sober bar early next year. Aaand they're both coming back for season 9 of Summer House, too.

But before they were doing bigger and better things, these two were involved in a m-e-s-s-y split. Here’s a breakdown of their breakup.

Carl officially pops the question while the Summer House crew is in the midst of filming season 7 of the hit show!

Lindsay hosts a garden-themed bridal shower party at the Moxy East Village in New York City ahead of her and Carl’s nuptials, and a buncha the couple’s costars join in on the festivities. Oh, and P.S. Carl himself even stops by to surprise his then-fiancée with flowers.

“I have such an amazing group of girlfriends that were not going to let me get away without having a bridal shower,” Lindsay says of the event during a convo with People.“They’ve been in my life for such a long time and they’ve been on this crazy rollercoaster of a journey to find love with me right by my side through every single relationship. I feel so lucky and blessed to have the girlfriends that I have and to be able to celebrate the biggest moment of my life with them before that next chapter. It’s just such a special treat to be able to do that.”

In a letter obtained by the media to family and friends announcing that he and Lindsay were canceling their wedding and calling off their engagement, Carl pens in part, “Words cannot possibly express how difficult the last two weeks have been for Lindsay and I. We are so incredibly sorry to all of our guests for the confusion and lack of communication. We were left trying to figure out how this all exactly happened before we could even have the opportunity to determine the path forward amongst ourselves.”

“There have been a lot of false narratives and misunderstandings that have made this all the more painful but sadly at this time we are not moving forward with the wedding. The fact of the matter is Lindsay is devastated and I’m crushed with how all this transpired. I graciously ask for some patience and grace to heal and recover while we navigate this extremely difficult time,” he adds.

Acknowledging that their guests’ “commitment of money and time was already a lot,” the reality star urges, “I don’t take [this] lightly. We are super grateful for the love and support you have shown us and will do what I can to help with any costs associated with changing plans.”

Lindsay pens a since-deleted Instagram tribute that discusses her breakup for the first time. “The last 2 weeks have been the most heartbreaking and emotional weeks of my life,” she writes in the somber post. “My entire life and future was ripped out from underneath me and I’ve had a hard time making sense of it all—with no answers or closure on why.”

The celeb adds that she feels “humiliated by how it went down” and “heartbroken” over the ordeal.

During an interview with Us Weekly, Lindsay says the decision to call off their engagement and wedding was Carl’s choice. “He blew up my entire life. I was crying, I was angry, and I had to find closure on my own. Now I’m at a place where I feel really good about moving on,” she says during the convo.

“The first month, I allowed myself to feel all of the feels: go through the sadness, the pain, the whiplash. I process [things] by talking about my emotions, and my friends allowed me that space. I was able to regain my strength and [the] confidence of like, ‘Okay, I can do this.’ The way that Carl handled everything was such an absolute betrayal of my trust, and when that happens, it makes it easier to pick yourself up and put yourself out there again.”

During an appearance at BravoCon, Carl seemingly responds to Lindsay’s allegations and claims that when viewers see Summer House season 8, they “are gonna pick up on and see things from the beginning.”

“We had a really rough summer and I think people will see that. But it just shows the gravity of the situation when I really deep down felt like I needed to have a conversation with her about where we were at in our relationship and moving forward with the wedding,” he notes.

The reality star also denies that he called production to film the breakup ahead of their November nuptials.

“I did not call production to set her up,” he says before continuing, “I don’t decide what is being filmed on Summer House. I really don’t. I just respond to what’s being requested. I’ve had to take some space and be quiet. This is the first time I’m talking in two months because I wanted to be respectful because it’s painful for the both of us. There’s still some closure and things I feel like that are gonna need to be figured out at some point. But I’m just on one day at a time. I’m just trying to just take care of myself,” he muses about where he’s at following the split.

Carl shares that he vacated the New York City apartment he shared with Lindsay during an interview with People.

“The apartment situation is still something we’re trying to navigate. Out of respect, I wanted to do the right thing and it felt right to give her the apartment to take the space,” he begins, sharing the news that he’s in a new apartment. “So excited to have a new foundation. Since I’ve had the new foundation, it’s been incredibly positive for me.”

The Summer House star goes on to describe the breakup as “unbelievably emotionally hard for the both of us” and says, “If there’s a way I can make it all better in some capacity, I would do that.”

“I’m not dating yet. I don’t personally feel it’s fair to enter another relationship while I’m still dealing with some entanglements,” Carl tells Us Weekly in an update on his love life.

He then goes on to dish how his relationship will play out on season 8 of Summer House. “My breakup is going to be a big conversation. I don’t know if that’s also fair for myself and anybody else that I would pursue. So [I am] taking some advice of my own and just taking a step back.”

And in terms of where he and Lindsay stand in their own ’ship...or, lack thereof: “We haven’t seen each other in person. We’ve had text messages since the breakup, but right now, no, we are not in communication. There’s still things being kind of tried to resolve. I really would like to resolve and move forward.”

“I don’t feel like it’s responsible or fair to try and pursue a new relationship when there’s still some entanglements, and [we’re] having to relive the breakup publicly on TV,” Carl says during a convo with People. “I personally feel like it’s best for me to take some more time...focus on myself, my career, my family, my friendships. I think, as I keep working towards that, something will happen on the dating side.”

Lindsay is pregnant! The celeb shares the exciting news via Instagram with the most touching tribute 😭❤️. Ahem: “I woke up this morning feeling so blessed and grateful for this journey 🙏🥰 But most of all, I’m relieved and excited to finally be able to celebrate openly, and with the world. It has been extremely difficult to hide my excitement in secrecy, and now that I’m able to share my happiness and joy, I feel like a weight has been lifted (even though I’m actually gaining weight by the day lol)! Our little cub is already so so loved! 🥹 Thank you for all of the sweet comments, love, and support! We are truly over the moon right now! ❣️”

Oh, and if you're wondering if she's worried about how Carl will react to the news...she's not. “I'm sure he'll find out when the rest of the world finds out, but I'm not calling him up and having a conversation with him,” she tells People. “That relationship is in my past, and I can't really focus on my past anymore because I'm so focused on my present and my future. And to be honest, his emotions are no longer my responsibility. It's just not my problem anymore.”

The name of Carl’s new sober bar—Soft Bar + Café—leaves fans of the show feeling a bit 😬.

But first! A reminder: In the weeks leading up to his chaotic breakup, Carl told Lindsay that he wanted her to be more “soft” with him—like, it became a whole THING throughout the demise of their relationship. So yah, the vibe is very much this when news of his latest endeavor is made public:

However!!! During an interview with Page Six, Carl provides ~context~ and dishes that the name was inspired by nonalcoholic beverages in Europe being called “softs.”

“While ‘soft drinks’ is a term used in the U.S., it has a different connotation, typically representing soda,” he tells the mag. “I wanted to define a new—and much needed—category and space, having ‘soft drinks’ or ‘softs’ be seen as functional and high quality non[alcoholic] beverages for adults.”

“I was sharing this thought during a conversation with my cofounder as we discussed raising the bar in the non[alcoholic] space, ultimately leading us to the name Soft Bar,” he adds.

The more ya know!!!

Paige chats about how the exes are doing amid season 9 filming to E! News. “It’s actually been fine. I think because they were friends for so long, it’s not as hard as I think people thought it was going to be for them to coexist,” she notes. “Obviously there’s been a few things—we’ve definitely had some drama in the house. It wouldn’t be us if we didn’t, but it’s been pretty chill.”

According to the Giggly Squad cohost, the two are on “totally different paths” after Carl called off their wedding in August 2023. “They’re both very happy, very content. I think it just further proves that it was a great decision for the both of them.”

Happy to hear the reality stars are turning the page and moving on!

Kyle and Amanda Batula sit down with Decider to talk all things Summer House season 9—and they spill some tea on Carl and Lindsay's dynamic on the new season.

“I think there are times where Carl and Lindsay had a better vibe in the house, just in terms of coexisting. I feel like the Ciara and West thing is pretty raw, especially coming off the heels of the reunion,” Kyle says.

Amanda adds, “The biggest thing is that Carl and Lindsay were able to communicate and have conversations. West just gets so tongue-tied and doesn’t know how to speak up.”

Summer House season 9 premieres on Bravo on February 12, at 9 p.m. EST and is available for streaming the next day on Peacock.
