Emma Watkins shares what she’ll miss about The Wiggles in emotional post

She announced earlier this year that she will be saying goodbye to The Wiggles at the end of 2021, and now Emma Watkins has shared a touching post opening up about her departure.

The Yellow Wiggle, who became the first female member of the popular children’s group in 2012, took to Instagram on Thursday to reveal which moments she’ll never forget.

“I’ll certainly miss driving the Big Red Car with Anthony, Lachy and Simon singing along with me,” she wrote in the caption alongside a snap of the band performing to a large crowd of people.

“Waving to everyone as we would drive by is one of my favourite memories. Lachy used to have the music in a headphone (in-ears) and he would tap on my shoulder to keep me in time.”

Earlier in the week, Emma shared another concert snap on social media and said that the photos “bring back many memories” for her.

“Usually in December we would have been finishing off our touring for the year around Australia,” she said. “We know that this has been a very different year and we haven’t been able to tour but thank you to everyone who joined us at the Wiggly live shows over the years.”

Several fans of The Wiggles took to the comments to applaud Emma for her time in the band and say that she will never be forgotten.

“I'll certainly miss watching you sing and dance your way into the hearts of children everywhere! But even so, I can't help but wish you all the happiness in the world!” one person wrote.

“My kids are grown now, but they adored you - as did I. Hope you have a bowtiful life after the Wiggles,” another added, followed by someone else who said, “You’ve been such an inspiration to our little one”.

“You're the reason my younger two wanted to start dancing and try ballet. You have really touched the hearts of so many littles,” a fourth remarked.

“Thank you for bringing so much joy into our home. May your future be bright, happy and filled with all the love you truly deserve,” a different user shared.

Emma announced in October that she had decided to leave the band so she can devote more time and energy to her other passions.

“After 11 years of performing with The Wiggles, and nine of those as the Yellow Wiggle, the time has come for me to pass the yellow skivvy on,” she said in a statement.

“Like many people around the world, the pandemic has given me time to reflect on what is important in life. For me, that means spending more time at home, something that I didn’t realise I was missing out on being away eight months of the year on tour, but something that I have really cherished over the last 18 months.”

“I am also really looking forward to devoting more time and energy on completing my PhD that incorporates my ongoing passion for sign language, dance and film editing, and to having more time to work with the Deaf community,” she continued.

16-year-old Tsehay Hawkins has since stepped in as the new Yellow Wiggle and will be hitting the road with fellow band members Anthony, Lachy and Simon early next year for their brand new arena tour, Fruit Salad TV Big Show.
