Emilia Pérez star Karla Sofía Gascón will not attend several upcoming awards shows in the face of controversies regarding her resurfaced social media posts.

Gascón, 52, is skipping the 2025 Critics Choice Awards ceremony to be held Friday, Feb. 7 in Los Angeles, reports Deadline and Variety. The Spanish actress is also not expected at the Producers Guild Awards on Saturday, Feb. 8, where she was scheduled to present, according to the outlets.

Gascón was expected to attend the Critics Choice Awards — where Emilia Pérez received 10 nominations in total — alongside costar Zoe Saldaña. The two are nominated for in the lead and supporting categories, respectively, for their performances in the Jacques Audiard-directed movie musical about a Mexican drug cartel leader who transitions into a woman.

After an outcry surrounding screenshots that journalist Sarah Hagi shared on Jan. 30 of posts Gascón made between 2016 and 2021 displaying comments about Muslim culture, George Floyd, diversity and more, the actress addressed the controversy. In a Feb. 4 statement shared on Instagram, she wrote, "I have been transparent because I have nothing to hide. During [that] time, I felt lost in my transition, seeking approval in the eyes of others."

Despite Gascón's snowballing controversies, the actress told CNN en Español during an interview that aired Sunday, Feb. 2 that she would not consider renouncing her Oscar nomination.

"I cannot step down from an Oscar nomination because I have not committed any crime, nor have I harmed anyone," she said in that interview, per CNN. "I am neither racist nor anything that all these people have tried to make others believe I am."

Gascón is nominated in the Best Actress Oscar category alongside Wicked's Cynthia Erivo, Anora star Mikey Madison, The Substance's Demi Moore and I'm Still Here star Fernanda Torres.

Emilia Pérez, now streaming on Netflix, is up for 13 Oscars total (including Best Picture), making it the most-nominated film of the year ahead of the March 2 ceremony.
