Elle Fanning Suits Up in Custom Valentino at Directors Guild Awards

Elle Fanning meant business at the Directors Guild Awards on Saturday in Los Angeles. The actress donned a custom Valentino suit designed by the label’s newest creative director, Alessandro Michele.

Fanning’s look consisted of a black blazer and trousers, as well as an ivory satin blouse and scarf, which were printed with the Italian label’s monogram. Cartier jewelry topped off her look.

Makeup artist Erin Ayanian Monroe gave Fanning beige eyeshadow and a stained violet-red lip, while hairdresser Jenda styled the actress’ blond tresses in a sleek bob.

The “Super 8” star also wore Valentino at the National Board of Review Gala in New York last month, where she received the award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown.”

Fanning modeled a look from Valentino‘s resort 2025 collection: a tiered dress featuring a ruffled yellow skirt and a lilac bow-embellished bodice. She added on a fur stole, completing her look with extravagant rubellite and diamond jewelry by Cartier.

Michele surprised the fashion world with his first collection for Valentino, revealed in June. The resort 2025 line comprises 171 looks that span womenswear and menswear. The designer delved into Valentino’s archives for inspiration, nodding to multiple decades including the ’50s, ’70s and ’80s.

“I love objects, I have an intimate relationship with material things, it’s almost like a religious meeting and I feel a great privilege to be able to touch [Valentino Garavani’s] designs, as if they were a relic part of his life,” Michele told WWD. “The rugs, the Chinese vases, the beautiful things he surrounded himself with conditioned his designs. He amplified beauty. I share the same kind of relationship with fashion as a great vehicle for freedom.”
