The "Photograph" singer, 34, recently sat down with Alex Cooper for the latest episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, and the two talked about everything from Sheeran's music career to his life as a girl dad of two.
When discussing women taking their husband's last names in marriage, Sheeran revealed that while it's a practice he grew up with, his perception shifted when he married his wife. He explained to the 30-year-old podcaster why it was important for his daughters to have both his and his wife Cherry Seaborn's last names.
"That's how I grew up, though, because that's the only thing that I knew. My mom had my dad's name, and, you know, I come from a very large Irish Catholic family. Sheeran was the name," he told Cooper. "I think it wasn't until getting married and having daughters where your perception — it shifts."
"You can't just be born and just believe things. You have to kind of experience and be brought over," he continued. "Now, I very, very much believe that that should be the case — that you should obviously keep both identities when you have children."

Elsewhere in the podcast, the "Galway Girl" singer, who's known for having tattoos all over his body opened up about his ink. Sheeran said that each of the tattoos have "all got stories, really."
"I think my left arm is my first five years of my career, and my right arm is kind of the next five years," Sheeran said. "And then I got my chest and back done, and my back is kind of like the most recent one. I got my kids' footprints the week that they were born, so I quite like that because they're tiny and obviously, they're a lot bigger now."
"My legs have actually started being my kids' drawing book," Sheeran sweetly explained. "So my daughter's just done a little bunny rabbit for my leg and you can put the date of it. It's quite nice seeing it."
Call Her Daddy
Ed Sheeran on 'Call Her Daddy' podcastThe "Bad Habits" singer and Seaborn first became parents when they welcomed their daughter, Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran, in August 2020. Two years later, the artist announced that he and Seaborn's family had expanded again with the birth of their second daughter, Jupiter, in May 2022.
Despite keeping his children out of the spotlight, the musician has been open about how much his lifestyle has changed since becoming a dad.
"Well, I became a dad and I feel like my lifestyle shift has changed. Instead of going to bed at six [a.m.], I'm getting up at four," he told James Corden on The Late Late Show in June 2021, noting that his daughter added some structure to his routine.
"It just feels like what life was meant to be. It's great," he continued. "I'm healthier than I've ever been. I'm exercising every day ... I'm spending so much time at home making the record. Yeah, I feel like a human being. It's good."
