Drake Hogestyn’s Final Days of Our Lives Episode Has Already Aired — Here’s How John Black Said Goodbye

Days of Our Lives fans have seen the last of John Black. Actor Drake Hogestyn, who died on Sept. 28 after a battle with pancreatic cancer, made his final appearance on the Peacock soap’s Monday, Sept. 9 episode, according to Soap Opera Digest.

The episode, which was reportedly filmed on Feb. 16, found John bestowing some grandfatherly advice upon Tate (Leo Howard), who was still feeling guilty about accidentally telling Holly that Eric was the drunk driver responsible for her biological father’s death. John couldn’t fully relieve Tate of his guilt, but he brought enough warmth and wisdom to the situation to ease his grandson’s troubles.

Hogestyn’s final episode also included a sweet moment between John and Brady (Eric Martsolf), who gave his father one last hug after announcing that all charges against him in Sarah’s ongoing hit-and-run case have been dropped.

And if you’re looking for Hogestyn’s final appearance opposite Deidre Hall, the other half of Days supercouple #Jarlena, you’ll want to stream the Thursday, Sept. 5 episode. Though it doesn’t give us one of the duo’s signature strawberries-and-whipped-cream scenes, it does include a few nice moments between John and Marlena.

Hogestyn’s co-stars have flooded social media with kind words about the late actor in the days since his passing. Stephen Nichols, who plays John’s BFF Patch, called Hogestyn “one of those special souls who exuded joy and a love for life.” And Alison Sweeney, who plays John’s daughter Sami, will remember Hogestyn as being “funny, generous and thoughtful” — an overall “incredible man.”
