All About Dr. Oz’s Daughter Daphne Oz
Dr. Oz’s daughter Daphne Oz is a TV host, author and chef
Dr. Mehmet Oz is a heart surgeon, Emmy-winning TV host and author, but he is also a father to four children with his wife Lisa Oz, an author and radio host.
Daphne Oz was born on Feb. 17, 1986, and was their first child together. She has gone on to follow in her dad's footsteps, appearing on TV and becoming an author.
Dr. Oz expressed his pride for his daughter’s successful career in 2020. “We are judged by how we improve the world,” Dr. Oz told PEOPLE. “And the most important thing we do to improve it is to raise kids who are contributing. So I’m very proud of Daphne.”
The reality TV personality also explained that he thought it was important for his children to experience failure.
“With the kids, we’d compete with them in sports, and I would love watching them struggle with failure and then feel blissful when they overcame challenges. They were all taught at a young age to embrace their biggest fears," he said.
Here’s everything to know about Dr. Oz and Lisa Oz’s daughter, Daphne Oz.
She’s a chef
Daphne got her chef’s degree from the Natural Gourmet Institute and graduated from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. She’s the author of four cookbooks: Eat Your Heart Out, The Happy Cook, Relish and The Dorm Room Diet. Daphne also took these talents to TV as a former co-host of The Good Dish, a syndicated daytime cooking and lifestyle show, as well as ABC’s The Chew.
She’s currently a judge on FOX’s MasterChef Junior.
“I do think cooking is a place to infuse a little bit of pleasure and a little bit of joy into your life every single day,” she told Yahoo.
She has four children
Daphne and her husband, John Jovanovic, share four children: daughters Giovanna Ines, Domenica Celine and Philomena 'Philo' Bijou, and son Jovan.
In 2020, Daphne shared how motherhood has changed her. “Becoming a mom means meeting your baby and a new version of yourself in the same moment,” Daphne told Jenni Kayne. “This upgraded you has bits and pieces of the old model — we still love some if not all of the things we used to before we had kids. But our priorities are reshuffled. Time is even more precious.”
The author also had advice for mothers today. “If you want to be happy, you cannot do it all. It’s not because you can’t have it all. But when you try to do everything all at once, nothing gets done right or enjoyably," she said.
Daphne has been honest about how being a mom isn’t always easy, but it’s worth it. “The crazy part about motherhood is no one can accurately describe the exquisite highs or the devastating lows to you. It’s so subjective and unique," she added. "I remember feeling like motherhood and the love that comes with it was some golden ticket into a secret club I never knew existed.”
She had a podcast
In 2020, Daphne launched a podcast about motherhood called Mom Brains with Hilaria Baldwin. “We would go out to dinner and share our best mothering advice, tips on everything, so we had this idea to start a podcast where we would create a village, create a group of mothers that we really loved and respected, and talk about deeper issues,” she told PEOPLE.
“Motherhood can be really lonely, so we want to provide a place where moms can commune together," she continued.
The podcast featured interviews with celebrity moms like Sutton Foster, Laura Prepon and Haylie Duff. They covered topics like bipolar disorder in children, childhood development and how to talk to kids about racism.
Her family is passionate about food
Daphne’s passion for food started when she was a little kid.
“Yes, health was a priority. It was never an obsession. It had this wonderful underpinning of food as the medicine you choose every day,” she told Women’s Wear Daily in 2022. “My father, both my grandfathers and my uncle are all surgeons so my mother and my grandmother have always been into complementary medicine and nutrition. We had this belief that food is this joyful, incredible celebratory place in our day. But it’s also this important way that you take care of yourself.”
Daphne also opened up about her weight struggle to Maisonette. “ I grew up the overweight child in the healthiest of families. Though I had to learn to curb my enthusiasm and lose the weight healthfully, I did so in a way that allowed me to keep my love of food — nothing off limits, no taboos."
The TV host is trying to instill that belief in her children. “I’d rather have my kids growing up with a love of trying new foods, being unafraid of new textures and flavors, than fighting with them over every bite that goes into their mouths or forcing myself to get into the kitchen when I really just want to order pizza. They only get to be kids once," she added.
She looks to her parents for inspiration
Daphne has the utmost respect for her parents. She looks up to them in all facets of life, from parenting to style.
"My dad was full of so much good advice. But I think the best kernel of wisdom came from his experience as a parent even more than a doctor. He reminded my husband, John, and I to take time to support each other and reconnect. Happy children are a product of happy parents,” she told Popsugar in 2014.
Daphne admitted she calls her dad often with medical questions. “I don't know what I would do without a doctor on call all the time because I'm so used to it. Both of my grandfathers are doctors, my dad, my uncle. So everything gets a call,” she told Parade in 2020.
The chef told Beach Magazine that her mom Lisa — a writer, actress, producer and author — is “the creative kernel for all of us."
“My dad would not be where he is today without her,” she said. “She is the most in-tune person I know and she has been, and still is, with us all every step of the way.”
She’s passionate about fashion and beauty
Daphne says her love for fashion and beauty started from her mom. “I do a lot of makeup tutorials online and people always asks me where I fell in love with makeup,” she told Women’s Wear Daily. “I remember really early on sitting at her knee, watching her do her makeup. Putting on your face to feel that confidence, that glow and putting yourself forward as you want to see yourself — all of that I learned from her.”
She also said being pregnant made her feel more confident about her style. “I felt so powerful and free to flaunt the curves that were growing a little baby, so I wore a ton of body con and low boots,” she told Popsugar.
She has a blog
Daphne’s eponymous blog features four major sections: Nourish, Style, Life and Pure Gold. The Nourish section features recipes like her grandmother’s egg-less caesar salad, watermelon jalapeño gazpacho and more.
The Style section features gift guides, hair accessories and other product recommendations. The Life section is chock full of motherly advice and the Pure Gold section is for everything else. The site highlights many images of Daphne at home cooking, getting ready and spending time with her family.
She’s also been a contributor on The Today Show, Good Morning America The Rachael Ray Show and more.
