Cher had some choice words to describe songwriter and friend Diane Warren—that seemingly didn’t all land with the legendary songwriter.

In the new documentary, ‘Diane Warren: Relentless,’ Cher spoke of some of the words that first came to mind when she thought of Warren, including, “Nuts, cheap, unrelenting, optimistic, sweet. She’s just crazy — oh my God. But she writes great songs.”

But Warren didn’t seem to agree with everything.

She went on to tell PEOPLE: “I don’t know why she calls me [cheap],” Warren said. “It’s not really cheap — I was never cheap. I paid for ‘If I Could Turn Back Time.’"

According to Warren, she had to beg Cher to record the record-breaking hit, “If I Could Turn Back Time.” In fact, Warren even covered the cost of the song to convince her.

The documentary chronicled Cher’s fight against the song, with her recalling, “I kept saying, ‘No, I do not want to record this song. I don’t want to do it. I hate it.‘”

Cher then finally agreed to make the hit—which she said took her “like 15 minutes.”

“I thought she’s the cheapest chick I know,” Cher said with a laugh. “But from the moment I started to sing it, it was perfect.”

Years later, Warren poked fun at the singer in her Instagram caption celebrating the hit song’s anniversary. “Happy 35th Anniversary to the song U hated @Cher and I wrote when I was 4!″
