All the Details on 'The Traitors' Lord Ivar! Peacock

The cast of The Traitors season 3 is best described as a chaotic mix of reality stars, random siblings of actual famous people (hi, Dylan Efron), and—ah yes—a member of the British royal family. But if you—like the rest of the cast—said "whomst??" when you heard the supposedly "very famous last name" Mountbatten, then we're here to fill ya in.

Meet Lord Ivar Mountbatten, a British aristocrat, gentleman farmer, geologist, event space host, and man who is casually related to King Charles. Why Lord Ivar felt the need to join The Traitors when he’s busy being posh and royal all day is beyond any of us, but he’s already my favorite contestant of the season and we're only three episodes in. Time for a deep dive!

How Is Lord Ivar Related to the Royals, You Ask?

’Kay, so Lord Ivar’s dad was Marquess David Mountbatten, and his grandfather was Marquess George Mountbatten. Turns out, George was the oldest son of Marquess Louis Mountbatten, who was married to Princess Victoria. Still with me? Cool. Princess Victoria’s parents were Louis IV and Princess Alice, and Princess Alice’s mom happened to be Queen Victoria. Like, THE Queen Victoria:

In other words, Lord Ivar is Queen Victoria’s great-great-great grandson. And King Charles is also Queen Victoria’s great-great-great grandson, meaning he and Lord Ivar are distant cousins (third? fourth?).

He Went to the Royal Family’s Fave Fancy School

Remember on The Crown when Prince Charles got extremely emo about going to Gordonstoun School? Well, it happens to be the same school attended by Lord Ivar!

Wow! Looks...fun!

He’s Married to James Coyle

Lord Ivar and James Coyle tied the knot in 2018, making history as the first gay couple in the royal family to get married. According to Tatler, the pair met in Verbier when Ivar mistook James for his ski instructor.

“He makes his mind up about something and sticks to it,” Ivar told the outlet back in 2019. “There’s no game playing, to a degree where you’re almost looking for the catch. He’s so straightforward and remarkably easy to love.”

He Has Three Daughters

Lord Ivar and his ex-wife Penelope Anne Vere Thompson have three daughters together: Ella Louise Georgina Mountbatten, Alexandra Nada Victoria Mountbatten, and Louise Xenia Rose Mountbatten. Meanwhile, Ella’s godfather is Prince Edward (aka King Charles’s brother) and Alexandra’s godmother is Edward’s wife, Sophie. Oh, and Lord Ivar himself is godfather to Edward and Sophie’s daughter, Lady Louise Windsor!

Lord Ivar and Penelope divorced after 17 years of marriage in 2011, and she walked him down the aisle when he married James Coyle. “It was the girls’ idea,” she told the Daily Mail. “It makes me feel quite emotional. I’m really very touched.”

Ivar added in the same interview, “I loved Penny when we were married, as I still do very much, and I loved our family unit.”

He Rents His Gorgeous Home as an Event Space

Lord Ivar and James live in Birdwell Park Estate, a beautiful property that they rent out for weddings and events. (They also run a small café!)

Once again, nothing but respect for MY King of England...and will absolutely be renting this space out for my future wedding to Dylan Efron.

Anyway, make sure to catch Lord Ivar on The Traitors season 3 each week along with the rest of the cast....
