Who’s Dead on Grosse Pointe Garden Society? TVLine Investigates

Grosse Pointe Garden Society is certainly planting seeds when it comes to its central murder mystery — but who is the actual dead body buried in the yard?

Back in Episode 1 of the NBC dramedy, which airs new episodes Sundays at 10/9c, we learned that our group of gardeners committed a murder. The victim, who to this point has only been referred to by the codename “Quiche,” remains unknown.

Among Birdie, Catherine, Brett and Alice, every single one of our gardeners has created enemies, which makes it hard to pin down one single theory. Episode 4 leaves us with a major cliffhanger indicating the victim could be a certain bad boyfriend, but we aren’t confident this is the big reveal — it still feels too soon! (Though the series creators have assured us the reveal won’t take too long, so it’s possible.)

While we wait for definitive answers, we’re assessing which Grosse Pointe enemy is most likely to be our sad, dead-in-a-ditch Quiche. Scroll through our list below where we round up which characters could be buried in the garden, listed according to the actual likelihood of their demise.

Doug

Things are looking pretty grim for Doug. His relationship with Alice is a rocky one: She has accused him of executing her dog, and he is increasingly jealous about her friendship with Brett. His jealousy comes to a head in Episode 4, resulting in a violent scuffle with Brett. Just as Brett grabs a shard of glass — seemingly poised to plunge it into Doug’s neck — the fight scene ends. Will Doug walk away with minor scrapes and cuts? Or is he our guy in the garden, buried in a body bag? Only time will tell, but as it stands now, Doug is most likely Quiche!

Gary

We already know Gary is missing, so he, too, could be our murder victim. But after getting outed as a complete liar, cheater and adulterer, the man has plenty of reasons to disappear. Though Gary seems like a reasonable choice for Quiche, we think he’s a bit too obvious to actually be the victim… but we’re not completely ruling him out.

Misty

Misty is the mother of Ford, Birdie’s son who was given up for adoption when he was an infant. Misty’s married to a cop named Joel, who also happens to be sleeping with Birdie. (What a tangled web!) Birdie has recently re-entered her son’s life as a not-so-anonymous financial benefactor — though he isn’t aware of their actual connection. Birdie’s messy affair and adoption drama doesn’t necessarily mean things with Misty will take a violent turn, but this dynamic is certainly becoming complicated enough to reasonably suspect a tragic ending.

Connor

Brett is butting heads with his ex-wife’s new husband, Connor. The guy seems to be winning over Brett’s children and bonding with them much more easily than Brett can. Plus, Connor is kind of an annoying snob, which isn’t necessarily grounds for murder in real life, but anything goes when it comes to this soapy dramedy. We simply haven’t seen enough of their dynamic since the premiere to place him higher on the list, but we are keeping a close eye on this guy.

Jillian

In the wake of Catherine’s affair, Morningside’s parent association has begun ostracizing her. The group’s leader, Jillian, encourages Catherine to step down from her volunteer position in Episode 4. But Catherine comes back to the next meeting with a vengeance, outing group members — including Catherine — for their own indiscretions. Might these two have a more dangerous face-off later in Season 1? It’s not off the table.

Bloomfield Hills’ Gardener

The entire Grosse Pointe gardening group has an ongoing feud with the neighboring Bloomfield Hills group. Birdie heads to the competition’s garden to investigate how they won last year’s contest, as Grosse Pointe suspects cheating. She ultimately steals — and destroys — their crystal trophy. While we don’t know much about the man who showed her around the garden, he seems to be in charge. He definitely deserves a place on our list of Quiche candidates due to the ongoing rivalry, but since he wasn’t even given a name, chances are slim that the entire series’ mystery hinges on the guy.
