David Schwimmer made a lot of people mad when he hosted Saturday Night Live.

On Monday, Jan. 13, the actor, 58, revealed on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert that he made a "big mistake" when he hosted the long-running sketch comedy series in 1995.

"There was one big mistake I made,” he told host Stephen Colbert. "I was the first in the cast of Friends to be invited to host Saturday Night Live, and it was a huge honor. It was 1995, just a year after the show aired."

Due to the filming schedule of Friends, Schwimmer got held up in Los Angeles the week of his Studio 8H gig.

"Friends, at that time, was shooting on Tuesday nights and we were shooting until sometimes 1 in the morning, and so I had to fly from L.A. to New York on Wednesday to get [to SNL]," he explained. "I really didn't get to arrive at SNL until Thursday, two days before the Saturday show."

The Emmy nominee continued, "And when I walked into the writers room, the entire writers room looked at me as if I had just slept with their mom... They were not happy to see me and I had no idea."

Ultimately, Schwimmer said he "got through the next two days but I was kinda traumatized."

The actor later learned that hosts are expected to arrive the Monday before the show. However, nobody relayed that information to him until long after his hosting gig.

"It wasn't until years later that I was talking to someone else who had hosted the show and they said, 'No no you're supposed to show up on a Monday,'" he recalled. "No one told me and for years I had no idea why."

Despite his faux pas, Schwimmer was still invited to the show’s 50th anniversary special on Feb. 16. Yet, he's unsure if the offer was genuine.

"It's been 30 years and I'm thinking, 'Well maybe they forgot? That they don't like me?' Or it's just some intern that's tasked with emailing everyone who's ever hosted," he said, adding, "I don't know what to do."

Schwimmer, meanwhile, recently starred in the second season of the Disney+ Goosebumps series, titled Goosebumps: The Vanishing. Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE, the actor shared that he was injured on set while doing a stunt "over and over."

"I get spun on the stool sitting at my desk and yanked forward," he explained. "I didn’t really hurt myself, but the next day I was like, 'Oh, I’m no longer 22.'"

The actor added that his entire body felt uncomfortable after the stunt.

"We rehearsed it and practiced, and I did it a bunch of times and [I felt] fine," he says. "And then the next day I was like, okay, that's why [my body] hurts."

Saturday Night Live airs Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC, and Goosebumps: The Vanishing is now streaming in full on Disney+.
