Dave Bautista to lead new Avatar: The Last Airbender movie
Dave Bautista has been cast in the upcoming animated Avatar: The Last Airbender movie.
Paramout announced at CinemaCon (via Variety) that the Guardians of the Galaxy and Dune: Part Two actor is part of the cast, alongside Eric Nam, Dionne Quan, Jessica Matten and Roman Zaragoza. Bautista is playing a villain, but character names are being kept under wraps.
The plot of the film, which is the first of a trilogy, is also being kept a secret, but we do know that the film has the working title Aang: The Last Airbender.

When the films were announced back in 2022, Paramount and Nickelodeon's head of animation said: "As original creators Mike (DiMartino)and Bryan (Konietzko) expand the Avatar universe with us, we're keeping it all in the family with Lauren (Montgomery) bringing the same kind of expert, beautiful work she did on the original series to her new directing duties on the forthcoming theatrical."
DiMartino and Konietzko were both attached to Netflix's live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series, but departed over creative differences early in development. Following the announcement of seasons 2 and 3, the showrunner who replaced them has also been confirmed to be exiting the show.
While promoting season 1, Zhao actor Ken Leung exclusively spoke to Digital Spy about whether his character survived his battle with Prince Zuko in the finale.
"I think fans of the show know that we do see him, we see him in the fog of lost souls. Although our show keeps it ambiguous," he said.
"You know this is a reimagining of the original so I'm not sure how much of that they're reimagining, but it would be interesting to see him in a place where he is forced to face what he did and what it all means. That would be interesting to investigate."
