Darius Rucker's friend Woody Harrelson takes a pretty good picture.

The "Wagon Wheel" singer, 58, shared screengrabs from a fan's TikTok on Wednesday, Jan. 15 in an Instagram post from a night out with the True Detective actor when he took a photo of him with fans — without recognizing Harrelson, 63.

"Storytime. One time my friend & I saw Darius Rucker at a bar and we asked his friend to take a photo of us," the text on the social media post read. "Darius was laughing and kept saying 'I'm gonna tell this story.' "

The fans later realized who was taking the picture of Rucker and the fans: three-time Academy Award-nominated actor Harrelson.

Rucker and Harrelson had been friends for decades. In Rucker's 2024 memoir Life's Too Short, he recalled when Harrelson had saved him from drowning in Hawaii during a tour break in the late 1990s after getting stuck in a powerful current.

"I feel as if some horrific giant squid has lashed itself around my body, circling and tightening its tentacles around my legs, dragging me under the water," Rucker recalled.

"I gulp and I gasp and I keep fighting. I fight and flail for I have no idea how long — ten minutes, fifteen — and then I hear a voice. Woody."

They wound up caught in the current and treaded water for 30 minutes until their friend Kirk came. Harrelson and Kirk could pull Rucker out of the current and back to the beach.
