Daredevil: Born Again Boss Hypes Punisher’s ‘Immensely Satisfying’ Return: ‘I Mean, We Broke Some Stuff’
The following contains spoilers from the March 11 episode of Disney+’s Daredevil: Born Again.
When Daredevil: Born Again first began filming a little over two years ago, the returning actors from Netflix’s Marvel’s Daredevil series included Charlie Cox (as Matt Murdock), Vincent D’Onofrio (as Wilson Fisk)… and Jon Bernthal, as Frank Castle aka The Punisher.

That Bernthal was already on board long before the midseason “creative overhaul” that changed out the creative team and also brought back Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson and Ayelet Zurer (as Karen, Foggy and Vanessa) proved serendipitous, given that the incoming showrunner was Dario Scardapane.
That’s because Scardapane served as an executive producer on Netflix’s Marvel’s The Punisher, which Bernthal headlined, and penned four of that two-season drama’s 26 episodes.
“Jon is near and dear to my heart,” Scardapane told TVLine ahead of Daredevil: Born Again‘s debut. “It was amazing to come back and get to work with him again.”

Bernthal has yet to make his first appearance on Born Again (Episode 4 of nine streams this Tuesday at 9/8c), but the iconic Punisher skull imagery has already popped up here and there — including in tattoos sported by some of New York’s Finest, and on the shirt of the person who shot dead Hector Ayala aka The White Tiger, in cold blood, at the close of Episode 3.
So it’s probably just a matter of time before Matt seeks out the man whose harder-core vigilantism seemingly inspired these ne’er-do-wells.
TVLine asked Scardapane to preview the circumstances under which will first see Bernthal’s Frank Castle again.
“I feel that whenever Frank comes into the story, hijinks ensue,” the showrunner said, “and in this story, that is very, very true.
“He comes in for a very, very particular reason, he is brought in by a very, very particular person, and I think that it will be immensely satisfying — and a bit like, ‘Oh, my God,'” Scardapane continued.
After all, “Whenever you put Frank and Daredevil together, all bets are off. It’s a tornado,” he reminded. “I mean… we broke some stuff!”
In addition to his Daredevil: Born Again appearances, Bernthal is also set to star in a standalone Disney+ special about Frank Castle/Punisher à la the Marvel Studios’ Special Presentations Werewolf by Night and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.
