“Dance Moms: A New Era ”Trailer Sees Coach Glo Applying the 'Pressure' to Get Students Competition-Ready (Exclusive)

In PEOPLE's first look at the all-new reboot, Coach Glo's students have to "prove" that they have what it takes as drama amongst the moms runs rampant

An all-new, no-nonsense dance instructor is in town — and her dancers (and their moms!) are feeling the heat.

PEOPLE is exclusively unveiling the first official trailer for Hulu's Dance Moms: A New Era, which is a reboot of Lifetime's original Dance Moms series. The first look provides a glimpse into Coach Glo Hampton's teaching style as she trains her seven students to compete in a national dance competition that's just weeks away. However, Coach Glo — who has "trained hundreds of kids" at Studio Bleu Dance Center in Ashburn, Virginia who "now dance professionally" — bluntly tells her students: "We are in no way ready."

“My one and only goal is to win a national title and it starts today,” Hampton tells the girls in the trailer. “Nobody's spot here is promised. Nobody.”

As Coach Glo prepares to "make everyone realize who the next big team is," her dances are beginning to feel the "pressure" at hand. "I have to prove myself to Ms. Glo," one student says in a confessional.

The parents are feeling the pressure, too, as one of the moms notes that she needs to keep her daughter "on track." But the moms are also up to no good, as the trailer cuts to various scenes of the women butting heads. One mother accuses the other moms of being "jealous" as another pushes a fellow mom's face.

Naturally, Coach Glo is completely "over it." She even tells two of the parents that getting the dancers competition-ready is "all I care about right now."

"Every dance from here on out is a test," Coach Glo adds. "It's now or never."

This isn’t the first time Coach Glo has appeared in the Dance Moms franchise. She was previously featured in a season 3 episode of the original reality series alongside her daughter, Kaeli. Her studio also successfully beat former dance coach Abby Lee Miller's junior elite competition team in a season 4 episode.

Abby Lee previously choreographed weekly routines for dancers like Maddie Ziegler, Kenzie Ziegler, Nia Sioux, Chloé Lukasiak, Kendall Vertes, Paige Hyland, Brooke Hyland, Kalani Hilliker and Jojo Siwa on the original series, which ran 2011-2019 for eight seasons.

Given the legacy Abby Lee left behind, Coach Glo tells PEOPLE exclusively that she has “big shoes to fill” after becoming the franchise's new strict dance instructor.

“I've spent 40 years teaching children to dance and that has prepared me for this moment,” Coach Glo says. “I'm so excited to take on this next challenge competing new routines every week in hopes of winning another national title.”

The Studio Bleu choreographer adds that she has a “tremendous amount of respect” for Abby Lee because she “paved the way” by giving her students national exposure.

“We are both tough teachers who expect a lot of our students, but we give a lot in return,” Coach Glo explains. “The major difference is, I am a dance mom. I have first-hand experience in raising a star! My daughter is a professional ballerina.”

However, Coach Glo says she is doing things a bit differently than Abby Lee, who was known for her harsh punishments and screaming at her students. The dance teacher says many of her students aren’t afraid to express their opinions and have huge personalities, something she wholly welcomes.

“Abby was able to get amazing results by demanding the best with her booming voice and scary demeanor, while I often find I get results simply with a look. My eyes say it all and my students feeling as if they have disappointed me is much more motivating than me yelling at them,” she shares.

According to Coach Glo, creating multiple new routines for different dancers every week was the most challenging part of her coaching gig. “Creating so many dances with very little time and competing them in three days is a huge undertaking. I give major props to Abby for doing it for eight seasons,” she says.

Just like the original series, the new reality show features drama between the dancers’ mothers as their kids compete against each other in dance competitions — and for Coach Glo’s approval. But she notes that navigating the dynamics of the stage moms on the show is “no different” than what she experiences regularly at her studio.

“I have incredible dancers with star potential but their mothers continue to drive me insane day in and day out,” she says. “I've been navigating this for a long time. I'm the expert and I always make sure they remember that.”

For Coach Glo, having the world watch her students for the first time is exciting.

“They are amazing hard-working kids who deserve to be celebrated,” she adds. “The struggle is real with their dance momsters, however!”
