After Revealing The Story Behind That Viral Picture Of Her And Paul Mescal At The Met Gala, Daisy Edgar-Jones Addressed The “Narratives” Surrounding Their Friendship
Daisy Edgar-Jones weighed in on speculation about her bond with Paul Mescal.
For context, Paul and Daisy famously starred together as love interests Connell and Marianne in the romantic drama Normal People, which catapulted them both to global fame in 2020.
Thanks to their incredible chemistry on and off-screen, Paul and Daisy — who’ve been known to spend time together socially — have long been the subject of dating speculation. However, the pair have always made it clear that they are great friends and nothing more.
So, despite this — and the fact that Daisy is in a relationship with artist Ben Seed — the two former costars couldn't escape chatter about their friendship when they were seen partying together at Glastonbury earlier this month.
And now, Daisy is having her say on all the persistent obsession with their bond, revealing in a brand-new interview with the Sunday Times that she finds it all quite puzzling.
“You watch with bemusement really, because it’s interesting to see what narratives people write in,” she said of the chatter about her personal life after pictures of her and Paul together at Glastonbury reignited conversations about their closeness.
Notably, this comes after Daisy was asked to give her “thoughts” on a viral photograph from the 2022 Met Gala, in which Paul — standing alongside his then-girlfriend, Phoebe Bridgers — can be seen staring lovingly at Daisy while she poses in front of him.
Because Paul’s adoring smile made it look like he was more concerned with Daisy than Phoebe at his side, the photograph had quite the moment online, playing into fan theories that the Normal People actors are “secret soulmates.”
However, in a video for WhoWhatWear published on July 11, Daisy said the fan response to the image is “kind of wild, considering the innocence behind it.”
“I was having kind of an out-of-body experience with the Met Gala, so Paul had said like, ‘Come and meet me, and we could do it together,’” she said, recalling how nervous she was before the big night. “We’re such good friends, and it was such a cool thing to go together.”
Of the loving look on his face in the picture, Daisy said: “Honestly, he’s my pal, so he’s probably just going ‘Hey, there she is.’”
